Teaching Philosophy Statement

During my three years in the classroom, I have observed that all children are unique with various learning styles and preferences. Although some may categorize children as auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learners, I believe that there is much, more to a child’s learning than can be defined by a single category. Part of my job as a teacher is to discover throughout the year how each individual student learns best. One of the teaching strategies I incorporate to address multiple learning styles is to provide large and small group learning opportunities as well as one-on-one time with each of them. I want them to be able to learn about the world in a safe and fun environment. I want them to be kind and learn to be gracious and self-aware. I want my students to learn how to be able to help themselves and others, so that they will be effectively prepared for the future. Most of all, I want my students to understand that they are loved and that I will do anything to help them succeed. I believe that all children can learn when provided the right environment and tools. Although my specific job requires me to prepare my students as effectively as I can for their educational future, I also believe that it is my responsibility to build a solid foundation of learning that includes not only being academically prepared, but socially/emotionally prepared as well. A major goal for me as an educator, is to ensure that both the child and the child’s support system are ready for the school system. With this being only my second year teaching, I have learned a lot about my teaching strategies and myself. I think the one thing I have learned the most about is that it is okay to ask for help. I am surrounded by an incredible team that will not hesitate to help me and I should not let my stubbornness and pride get in the way of asking for assistance. Another key facet I have learned is that even on the days that you feel like nothing is getting done and you are not making a breakthrough are the same days that a parent will tell you that you are doing something well. Children are always listening. Even if they appear to be in another world during circle time, they are listening and absorbing the information. I work incredibly hard each and every day to ensure that my students will leave FSUCC with something to take with them. There is always room for improvement and I can only get better as the years go
