My Philosophy Statement

My philosophy of education is that success happens when high expectations are set that enable growth in academics and behavior. I believe that ability grows with effort, as Dweck says, “It’s not always the people who start out the smartest who end up the smartest.” A classroom should be a safe community where students are able to meet their full potential. Students should be able to express their ideas freeing them to question and ponder what they are learning. In doing so, they will continually thrive once their curiosity is piqued and then learning becomes desired not just required. I also believe that it is essential to create a positive learning environment where students are motivated to see the worth and meaning of the information being presented. With all this focus on opening the door to their curiosity so that learning is fun as well as empowering, there must be clearly communicated rules and objectives. This coupled with the above mentioned high expectations are the two main factors in forming a positive learning environment. In forming this type of community it is crucial to truly know your students.
