With the bottled water industry grossing over 7.8 billion dollars in 2015, how does a relatively new brand seemingly become a top competitor in the cutthroat business? Smartwater appeals to the modern day population by invoking feelings of freshness and purity. While the true focal point of the ad is not entirely clear, there are two aspects that immediately grab the viewer’s attention, the woman and the color scheme. Focusing on the color scheme and various details within the ad, it becomes apparent that the correlation between the text of the ad and the setting are linked. The text of the ad reads “Looking up to the clouds, that’s where we found the inspiration for smartwater. Around the world, the color white is symbolic of purity, cleanliness, freshness…and the list goes on. The color scheme works to bring about these thoughts in the people who are exposed to the ad. Looking at the small details of the room, such as the early time on the clock, the bed not being made, and the woman still in night wear it becomes clear that she has just woken up not to long ago. Another aspect that promotes the bottled water industry is convenience. The woman is clearly in bed which provides the thought that bottled water can be enjoyed anywhere and anytime even in the comfort of your own little sanctuary without the worry of spilling it everywhere when you set it down. The expression on the face of the woman and overall posture indicates she is refreshed, which is not a typical feeling shared by the majority of people.
