Since the beginning of time, man has always known conflict. Conflicts over territory, religion and even theories of government, have led to countless wars. These wars always result in devastation to the land in which the battles and skirmishes are fought. In the 1940s, the invention of the nuclear bomb put the destruction caused by all previous warfare to shame. A weapon capable of ending the lives of thousands, with an extensive range, in an instant became the United States’s most powerful weapon. The use of these nuclear weapons would soon be questioned by many for use, based upon the debate as to whether or not these weapons of mass destruction are truly moral. With this morality in question, it is therefore necessary to declare the use of nuclear weapons in warfare inexcusable and utterly illegal. …show more content…

After being involved in World War II for almost four years, the United States had finally completed the atomic bomb. Dropping the two bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the United States saw first hand the damage that the nuclear weapons could do. “Destroying everything within it’s one and a half mile radius, the atomic bomb became a destructive force of mass proportions” ("The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki"). The damage caused initially was only the beginning of the damage that would occur. Fallout from the atomic bombs rendered large areas outside of the blast zone uninhabitable. Those not vaporized in the blast would soon face the scourge of radiation poisoning. Striking in the bodies of those caught in the contaminated zones and resulting in excruciating sickness and pain, many of these victims would wish to be put out of their misery, having rather died to a
