Ray Bradbury wrote Fahrenheit 451 over fifty years ago, yet he captured many attributes of our modern society with such authenticity it is hard to believe he imagined it. The parallels between the world of history and the world we live in are hard to ignore. Bradbury describes the entertainment devices adhering to today’s society. First, Bradbury states, “Behind her, the walls of the room were flooded with green, yellow, and orange fireworks sizzling and bursting to some music composed almost completely of trap drums, tom toms, and cymbals” (Bradbury 29). Everyday, people make decisions that define their lives. Some people act selfishly, and only act for personal benefit, while some give of themselves for the benefit of others. In Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, two characters exemplify these converse ways of life, one of them being alive and selfless, and the other being dead to humanity and selfish. Mildred, the wife of Montag the protagonist, epitomizes such a selfish lifestyle, while Clarisse, an eccentric seventeen year old, lives for the fullness of life and for the benefit of others. Through their contrasting actions, two lifestyles surface, and they demonstrate what it takes to truly live.

In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury established a society in which they are no limits to the vehicles they drive in order to blind the community of their curiosity. Vehicles, no matter the size or shape have speed that not many cars should not be pushed to. In Montag’s society, as a result of this many citizens including one of Mildred’s friend states that she drives at such a speed not to get jailed by the government that she doesn’t clearly see her environment when driving her car. Ray Bradbury, the author for FAHRENHEIT 451 has a unique style for writing books. The tone he uses throughout the book is “possessiveness”, and it never seems to fade. Another unique characteristic of his writing, is his vocabulary across the board, he uses a lot of words with direct meaning playing along with the tone of his book. The structure for his sentences, seem to carry out a lot about how he acts as a writer, his sentences seem to be a bit short but sure do give a blow. All and all Bradbury seems to have a light leading to dark mood, which is provided throughout the book.

In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the protagonist, Montag, a Firefighter lives in a dystopia where books can not be kept or read. The government has brainwashed Montag into believing books contain bad things until certain people he meets make him reevaluate his thoughts. He soon realizes what he lacks in his life without books and how he needs to change what happens to bring quality into his life and others. In Fahrenheit 451, Clarisse, Faber, and the old woman appear briefly but become a significant presence in Montag’s life. Clarisse, a young girl, whom he meets on his way back from work one day becomes important to Montag because she gets him to think about himself and how he feels.

He uses active, descriptive language to develop images that promote inquisitiveness and a desire to turn the page, to find out what happens next. Through the novel Divergent, Veronica Roth explores the theme of survival in a dystopian society using the character Tris’ unique talents and intelligence to enable her to have to fight to survive and keep her identity a secret which causes everyone to believe that she can not be trusted and is dangerous.
