Italian entrance to World War II with the Axis powers can best be described as a rash decision made by a fascist tyrant: Benito Mussolini. After Mussolini’s dismissal in July of 1943, American occupation of Italy continued in order to push German soldiers out of Italy. Even after Italian liberation in 1945, American occupation continued to aid in the implementation of a sound government and to continue establishment as allies (History). Between American and Italian people during occupation laid a barrier of hierarchy of American society and ignorance of the culture and history of Italy. Through the guidebooks given to American soldiers during occupation of Italy, American attempts to destroy this barrier can be seen through the progression
Italy had a rough roller coaster ride from starting as a group of Nomads and travelers to becoming the largest empire in Western Europe. Italy’s origin comes from the Roman Empire who at the height of its peak was unable to control the entire empire from the Capital. The Roman Empire has multiple different religions that have come and go, the main religion in Italy is Roman Catholic. Italian politics constantly changed until the World War II Era with the execution of Mussolini. Italy is a peninsula shaped like a boot in the Mediterranean Sea, littered with large mountains and hills such as the Alps mountain range.
Since the life of Italy failed to have a central monarchy, modifications occurred during the 14th century. The changes were the growth of larger regional states, the renewal of republican governments by tyrants and the action of having a commerce. This created cities such as Florence to have an expanding land as well as a wealthy merchant class which is why they became the banking center of Italy. As depicted in the text it states "The other major northern Italian state was the republic of Venice, which had grown rich from commercial activity throughout the eastern Mediterranean and into northern Europe." Therefore, Italian cities later on became siginificant as a commercial and trade workers.
The streets were colorful and elegant. The colors of the houses, store windows, restaurants, fire hydrants, decorations and murals on the street were all colored according to the national colors of Italy: red, white and green. Most of the people in Little Italy were Italian with a few people that were non-Italian. Even though we went to little Italy in the morning, the restaurants were busy. I could hear people speaking Italian on the streets.
Rome is the capital city of Italy and was founded in 753 BC. Once the Roman Empire broke down (395 AD) the remaining cities became city states and were separate from each other. That all changed in 1861 when Italy became one again. It remained a kingdom until 1946 after the second World War. Italy is the founding member of the European Union (EU) and the
The first difference between Primary school in Italy and in Finland is the duration. In Italy is recognised as “primary school” the school period from six to eleven years old, instead in Finland the basic education is a longer process that starts at the age of seven and least until the age of sixteen. That doesn’t mean that in Italy the basic education least less, but the study course is divided in more parts: the end of the compulsory education is for both countries when the child is sixteen years old, but in Finland the basic education is a continuous, organic process, in Italy there is a distinction between the first five years of primary school and the second three years of middle school (first degree secondary school). Furthermore, in
The Real Little Italy Although it is true Manhattan’s Little Italy was in fact a large Italian neighborhood, many tourists and some NY locals are unaware of the fact that the Belmont area of the Bronx is a historic neighborhood, which had a great influx of Italian immigrants in the late 19th century. Belmont, a predominantly Italian neighborhood located a little west of the Bronx Zoo, still consists of local shops, restaurants and delis that all represent this area’s rich historical past. Famous shops to look out for if you happen to visit the Bronx Zoo are Teitel Brothers and Arthur Avenue Market, which both have a large selection of Italian goods. An important holiday that takes place in this neighborhood, which still occurs in Italy, is a holiday called Ferragosto.
When considering Italy after its formation as nation-state in the late 19th century, it has never been required to change by other countries. However, throughout the entire history Italian territory has faced many invasion and battles which have influenced it. But unfortunately, this country has also been involved in cruel events for the purpose of conquering new lands. Some of the most recent terrible actions done by this country were the conquest of African colonies during the Fascism. Indeed, the purpose of these mission in Africa were to destroy other countries such as Libya and Eritrea in order to provide benefits to Italians.
Starting at a young age my family had stressed the importance of embracing my Italian heritage. My father, mother and grandfather each contributed in showing me that in order to honor our Italian heritage you must demonstrate three qualities as a young man. My father is responsible for teaching me respect and how to give every individual you meet total and complete respect. Similarly my mother is responsible for teaching me love, how to love and how to spread love throughout the world. As for my grandfather, he taught me what courage is and how to always be courageous.
There are 195 countries on the planet, but there are many more cultures than there are countries on earth. Not one culture is exactly like one another but they all can share some similarities with one another. Mainly cultures tend to contrast, The United States of America’s culture contrasts with many, but the ones I am the most curious about would be Mexico, South Korean, Japanese and Russian cultures. I have always been curious about Mexican culture.
In American society stereotyping of Italian cultures is seen significantly in movies and shows. Research has shown that Italian Americans are misinterpreted because of the Italian American stereotypes that exist about them due to what is shown in the media. For example due to the creation of many shows such as “Jersey Shore” on MTV, "Growing up Gotti", “Sopranos” and the “Mob Wives”, are one of the main reason why people begin to stereotype and misunderstand Italian Americans. The adverse actions of the “Italian” characters in these shows roots the stereotype of all Italian Americans as being involved in criminal activities which makes most Americans believe that all Italian Americans are that. If we look back in history we can see that the
Italy was under Fascist dictatorship during the 1930s. Fascism is a form of totalitarian government that has no exclusive beliefs or code. During the 1930’s different Fascist countries had different ideals, and now Fascism has evolved to be a definition of nay non-communist group. However, all Fascist governments demand extreme nationalism and loyalty to the dictator, as well as encouraging emotional urges for action, violence, and discipline over enlightenment ideals of reason, liberty and equality.
Because they often do not have access to recorded family health history, many adoptees do not know what diseases could be lurking in their DNA, the inherited genetic material that defines the characteristics of living organisms. With the advent of the Affordable Care Plan and its no-cost preventive care services, many people with known family health histories of hereditary disease can receive genetic testing if they meet generational requirements, such as instances of disease within close familial relationships. However, many adoptees face a unique problem in that they may not know who their parents and extended family are, much less any significant details of their family health history. Considering the obstacles that adoptees and orphans face under these circumstances, genetic testing should be provided to these individuals who have no knowledge of their family health history at no cost under the Affordable Care Act, its successor, or an
