The Most Dangerous Game is a short novel written by Richard Connell (published in 1924) about a game hunter named Sanger Rainsford, who is travelling to the Amazon on a sailing yacht. Part of the way there he falls overboard and is forced to swim to Shiptrap Island. There, he finds himself caught up is a sick game to the death against the island’s owner, General Zaroff. He successfully defeats Zaroff, using his sense of rationality to evade the general and escape with his life. This short story explores the idea that instinct can be overpowered with the use of logic and reason. The text shows this to be true, human instinct can only go so far, and it is stated indirectly that Rainsford uses logic and reason several times. It is almost impossible
