The argument about college athletes, to pay or to not pay, has been an ongoing debate for a long period of time. The NCAA, or National College Athletics Association, was founded by President Roosevelt in 1905, with the idea of paying salaries to the athletes who were a part of this organization in mind (Top 10). But, since 1905 the NCAA has made millions and millions of dollars off of their athletes, as well as other things such as TV marketing and advertising, but still continue not to pay them because it's “against their tradition”. It may be against the long running tradition of the NCAA, but something needs to change. Fairness or whatever needs to be forgotten about because in reality, everyone involved it the process 0of college athletics is on a different pay scale, except the actual athletes of course (It's Time). The NCAA has made over $814 dollars in the past 10 years (Revenue). Not to mention that college athletics pulls in about $12 billion dollars a year as a whole (How Much?). Some people believe that college students shouldn't get paid by the NCAA because their schooling is getting paid for. However, that is untrue because they don't get paid anything even though they are racking up millions of dollars for their schools. Free college is not equivalent to getting paid for playing a sport but an athlete because athlete wouldn't pay extra money to go to school because their main focus is playing sports (Arguments Against). A college education tends to be worthless to an athlete into a normal student because they're more worried about their athletics, meaning, free tuition is not exactly a fair equivalent (Arguments Against). College athletes, while balancing Studies and athletics put in so much time and dedication for their school and their sports
