Genetically Modified Organism, or commonly known as GMO's, is a crucial issue worldwide. A GMO is a type of organism that had its's genetic material modified or altered in a way using biotechnology that allows it to improve productivity and product quality. GM foods are designed to be resistant to diseases and pesticides. As well as being designed to have a higher nutrient value and higher life expectancy. The amount of GMO’s produced and sold, far exceeds than organic food, only because of the good they will do for the people. However, despite the good deeds people may think that the GMO offers for this world, the amount of GMO’s produced should be limited due to the number of risks, such as posing a threat to the human health, the environment, …show more content…

An example that shows how some GMO modifications can be lethal is the BT corn which is a type of corn that was modified to produce a protein that kills pesticides. The protein however, may be safe in its natural organism, but once it been consumed and transferred into a new species, the not so harmful protein could be processed and transferred to something deadly. In Safety in Genetically Engineered Food, the book starts stating that as new GMO start entering the market that it is important to emphasize the hazards of any food produced by any method. “In a recent report, 363 samples of cereal-based infant food were tested, and 100 percent were found to carry various mycotoxin” (105). The book explains despite what GMO product you consume the consumer is likely to encounter risks such as pathogens and toxicants. Despite the advancement of technology, GMO foods will always be considered to be toxic to humans due the number of alterations scientist used to improve the product, and how scientist aimlessly produce GMO's without taking into account how might these alterations affect the people who eat
