Although Leah Libresco is in favor of stopping people from dying of guns, she does not feel that standardized gun control is the right answer; therefore, the best way to deal with sensitive issues is by taking a personal approach to them. One gun control proposition is to ban silencers. Libresco does not feel that this is the right approach, and she uses a simile to prove her point; “An AR-15 with a silencer is about as loud as a jackhammer” (Libresco n.pag.). Comparing a silenced weapon to a jackhammer proves not only that silencers don’t truly silence a gun, but it also aids in Libresco’s attempt to prove that wide gun control is unwise. Jackhammers are cumbersome, unwieldy tools, just as mainstream gun control proposals are cumbersome and
One of the strongest arguments those that are against gun control have is the 2nd Amendment, which reads, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Though it seems that it is specifically stated that an individual’s right to own guns is protected by this amendment, those for gun control interpret this from a different angle. They believe that the Constitutional Amendment was aimed at militias, not the common people, and therefore individuals do not have undeniable rights to gun ownership. Those that believe that gun control would be a crime are firm believers that the Founding Fathers understood the need for citizens to own guns to protect themselves against government intrusion. Lawrence Hunter, Chairman of Revolution PAC, stated, “The Founders understood that the right to own and bear laws is as fundamental and as essential to maintaining liberty as are the rights of free speech, a free press, freedom of religion and the other protections
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" (U.S. Const. amend. II.). In light of such tragic mass shootings that have occurred across the United States of America, the 2nd Amendment of the American Constitution has been called into question in attempt to establish new legislation. The United States’ weak gun control regulations are the cause of much criminal violence and should be reviewed and strengthened in order to decrease gun related violence.
In “The Use of Force” of William Carlos Williams, I agree with the way that the doctor treats Mathilda for two reasons. Firstly, there’s no other appropriate way to treat Mathilda. In order to treat Mathilda, the doctor has to examine the patient’s throat, but the patient doesn’t open the mouth. The doctor has tried every appropriate ways to examine her, but she still refuses the examination. Thus, the doctor has to use his strength to force the patient in order to treat her.
Gun control has been a hot debate for many years now because of all the violence. Many government officials, citizens, and lobbyist have been debating over gun control for over a century and still there has not been an answer to the current debate. With the rise in gun violence people believe that gun control will take the Constitutional right away from U.S. citizens. Changing any of the gun laws will not stop gun violence; it will only take away the second amendment right.
Despite what most pro gun control Americans think, gun control doesn’t lower crime, it actually raises it. With this said, when we look at right-to-carry states, which are states that make it easier to carry and buy guns, we see that, “The violent crime rate is 24% lower than the rest of the U.S., the murder rate that is 28% lower, and the robbery rate that is 50% lower” (Agresti & Smith, 2015). Two states that prove this are Florida and Texas. “On October 1, 1987, Florida pass a right to carry law which allows citizens to easily get and carry guns in public” (Agresti & Smith, 2015). Ever since the Florida right-to-carry law was enacted, the Florida murder rate has averaged 36% lower than it was before the law took effect (see Appendix D for
There are many different current events surrounding gun control, such as criminals people being able to own guns. Gun control should not be a topic up for discussion because the Constitution protects the rights of all citizens to own guns within reason. Gun control right now is set to where people that are criminals can not own guns, you have to register all guns purchased, and there is a minimum number set for number of rounds you can have in the clip at a time. The government needs to keep gun control at what it is right now because if they change it, it is imposing on the second amendment if they try to prevent people from owning guns, and does not deter criminals or prevent mass shootings.
The Second Amendment of the United States constitution reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The right of all Americans to bear arms is a right the Founding Fathers held to equal importance as the constitution itself. (The Guardian, 2017). The idea of gun control laws directly violates this constitutional right. The NRA believes that gun control should not be under consideration.
Gun Control A country without violence would be a great place. Gun violence is the number 1 cause of casualties in the USA, but it’s the person behind the trigger who does the damage. Guns are weapons, but not all weapons are used for harm. I believe gun violence is an issue, but won’t be controlled by stricter gun laws.
Gun control, a controversial issue since ratification of the Second Amendment. Considering Americas accomplishments with firepower, it's also important to think about the gun related deaths and other statistics before choosing a side of the debate. Weighing out the pros and the cons of a contentious issues are crucial. Regardless of what side is chosen there is still a bigger question to be asked, such as, should the government be permitted to infringe upon the right to bear arms under the second amendment? The government, or anyone else for that matter, should not be able to contravene the right to bear arms because it's in the bill of rights, the use of guns helps provide for the family, and we should be able to protect and defend ourselves
Do any of you believe gun control will help or make problems worst? There have been many mass shootings happening all over the world and Obama wants gun control. Gun control is laws that control how guns are sold, used and who can own them. Stricter gun control laws do not infringe the people’s right to bear arms.
The Second Amendment guarantees law-abiding Americans the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. But over time, gun control laws have placed limits on that freedom. Some politicians and gun control proponents argue that these laws are necessary — even at the cost of infringing upon a fundamental American right. But the fact is, gun control doesn’t work the way advocates argue it does. What is Gun Control?
Guns; Made to Protect not to Harm If guns kill people, then pencils misspell words, cars make people drive drunk, and spoons make people gain weight. The 2nd Amendment under the Constitution states, ¨The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed¨ ( qtd. In Burgan 38). Today the decision of whether to infringe on the right to bear arms is a heavily debated topic.
A gun is a weapon to kill, whether it be people or animals, its original purpose is to end life, or, at least, cause bodily harm. A gun can be used for many different outcomes intended by the users, but intentions are different than purpose. Once that is clear, what can be brought to the table is whether or not citizens should have the need for guns. What citizens need a gun for is self defense, a person has the right to defend their life, along with their way of life. The second amendment states “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”.
Gun Control does not need to be more enforced than it already is. Gun control has nothing to do with how criminals kill people, as most guns are bought illegally or smuggled in. Even if there is more gun control, people will still find ways to get and buy guns. According to CDC.Gov, in 2014, there were 2.5 million deaths in the U.S, and only 13,000 of those deaths were gun-related.
