Gun control is a very divisive issue in the United States today. It has been an issue for years, but with the recent mass shootings gun control is being brought to the country’s attention. There are many opinions in the debate on gun control. Both sides are very passionate, and have many reasons why they believe their opinions are correct. Below I will explore both sides of the gun debate.

The article, The Gun Debate, states that, “Most gun control exists on the state level.” Meaning, depending on which state you live in, the way you buy and possess firearms will be different. The article also states, “Most of the guns from mass shootings used in NY came from states where gun laws are more lenient.” If the United States had country wide gun control instead of state wide gun control mass shootings could be prevented. The article states, “America has had the most mass shootings in the world from 1966-2012.” America also, per every 100 people has about 89 guns. That is the most in the world. The number of guns and the number of mass shootings go hand in hand. Countries like Yemen only have about 55 guns per 100 people, and they only had 11 mass shootings in the same time period. So if we could pass a law limiting the number of guns Americans can own, we could lower the number of mass shootings in this country.
