Pro Gun Control Gun control is the set of laws that regulate the manufacturing, sale, possession, transfer, modification, or the use of firearms by civilians. In the first 45 days of 2018, there were thirty mass shootings. (Gun Rights vs). Every year, thousands of innocent people die because criminals illegally get their hands on firearms. More gun control laws need to be put in place because it will significantly decrease the number of gun related deaths and suicides in the United States. The Second Amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The US Supreme Court declined to rule in favor of the individual right to bear arms four times between 1876 and 1939. (Should More Gun). All law articles about the Second Amendment from 1888 and 1959 stated that an individual’s right on the Second Amendment wasn’t guaranteed. If there were stricter gun laws in the United States, there would be lower suicide rates. Between 1999 and 2013 there were 270,237 firearm suicides in the United States which accounted for 52% of all suicides during those years. A March 2014 study that was published in the International Review of Law and Economics, showed that when gun ownership was lower in the United States, the overall suicide rates went down. Between the years of 2000 and 2010 firearm suicide rates accounted for 61% of all firearm deaths in the United States. If a person wants to kill themselves, they are unlikely to commit suicide with a knife or another method when a gun is unavailable. (Should More Gun).
