“We need to build a wall” (Trump). Why has the idea of deporting troubled immigrants all of a sudden become a huge political topic? Historically, America has supported immigration to the country as long as they were from certain countries. There is a plack on The Statue of Liberty that says, “Send me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free” (the balance). This was actually written by a young, French immigrant, named Emma Lazarus, in the late 1800’s. It shows that the United States were confident their country would support struggling people from other countries. Although, some may argue that he is taking away the rights listed in the Constitution. One standpoint oppositions will argue is, that Trump’s immigration policy has prevented people who want to become a citizen legally from coming into the United States. Although this may prevent these people from wanting to become citizens, Trump makes it clear that he is only deporting the illegal immigrants that are causing problems in the country. And, one of the reasons why these people don’t want to become citizens any more is because they feel as though American citizens are starting to lose their rights. But that is not true, because as long as they are not causing harm to other Americans, they are still allowed to use the rights that they have earned when becoming an American citizen like always. Another argument someone might have is that the new plan will deport illegal immigrants that are innocent, and only came into the country illegally because they were scared they wouldn’t meet the naturalization requirements. This isn’t true because when determining whether an immigrant should be deported, they look at the person's criminal record to see if they have caused trouble. So, as long as you haven’t been unhelpful to the country you will be safe from deportation.
