The Industrial Organic Meal is good for you because it doesn’t use chemicals & contains more nutrients. In Michael Pollan’s book Omnivore's Dilemma on page 136 he says, “To grow the plants and animals that made up my meal, no pesticides found their way into any farmworker’s bloodstream, no nitrogen runoff seeped into the watershed, no soils were poisoned, no antibiotics were wasted, no government subsidy checks were written.” This quotes proves that the Industrial Organic meal is healthy for you & it’s healthy for you because no bad chemicals makes its way into the food you will be eating . The Industrial Organic meal is also healthy for you because it contains nutrients. In the Article Health Benefits of Organic Food the author writes, “Organic food growers & dairy farmers do not use any antibiotics in their process.”
On December 5, 2012, Daisy Luther, a journalist from Northern California wrote a blog entry on the conspiracy surrounding “certified organic” labels that is claimed by some companies and retailers. She brings up the question of whether these labels being stamped on food can really be verified or are they just a way to empty out the wallets of consumers. In the website The Organic Pepper, the blogger generally gives advice for different problems people encounter on a daily basis. Through her blog entries varying from ways to stay healthy to frugal living, Luther states her opinion of governmental interference on our food supply by citing sources from articles from Natural News and Time Magazine. She first starts out by arguing about how the
I originally thought about the word organic as fruits and vegetables picked freshly from the branches of a tree and packaged into stores and chickens wandering large fields, I realize that it is not that simple. Michael Pollan traced some of his organic purchases back to their sources and discovers that there are organic feedlots, organic dairy cows whose lives are not any nicer than the conventional, and organic “free-range” chickens whose only access to the outside world is a small door in their shed, which is only open for about two weeks. “The organic movement, as it was once called, has come a remarkably long way in the last thirty years, to the point where it now looks considerably less like a movement than a big business” (Pollan 138). My thoughts now on organic foods at supermarkets such as Wegmans and Walmart is that the animals aren’t treated as great as conventional foods. I’ve realized that the extra cost of organic that I pay is largely because of the transportation.
Organic is always associated with chemical-free production. However, does the word “Organic” on a label mean the product is indeed organic? Eliot Coleman in his article, “Beyond Organic”, published in December/January 2002 in the “Mother Earth News” magazine, claims that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has become a threat to the organic farmers. Coleman starts to grab readers’ attention with his personal experience, providing strong facts about organic food, and applying some emotional appeals; however, his audience is only convincing for organic farmers but not strong enough to convince the ordinary organic consumers.
In the book “The Omnivore's Dilemma” Michael Pollan explains the benefits of eating organic food vs eating non organic food. One study Pollan talks about is a study from the University of California and says “the study showed that the organic fruits and vegetables contained higher levels of vitamin C.”(page 156 OD) The study proves that organic food is healthier than conventional crops because they are richer in vitamins. Healthier food is better for the public’s consumption. Another reason the industrial organic food is better for the public is because it is better for farmers and labors growing it.
grown on large industrial farms but with only natural fertilizers, and natural bug and weed control.” as said on page 5 of The Omnivore’s Dilemma. Industrial Organic foods can come in many shapes and sizes, but a timeless example of a company that has been selling organic TV Dinners would be Cascadian which has been selling processed organic food for many years now. One of the foods they sell food is organic, but is still considered industrial are TV Dinners which do include organic foods, but are quick and easy to serve which is considered to be the food making process of Industrial food which prevent Industrial Organic foods from beings truly
First of all, Pollan states just because it says it's organic doesn't mean it really is. If you buy an “organic” salad at your local grocery store, farmers will still use pesticides to keep bugs away and other animals. The chemicals they use are all natural, but it's not truly organic if you use pesticides or other chemicals. In The Omnivore’s Dilemma Pollan says, “Instead of toxic pesticides, crops are sprayed with natural substances, like BT, a pesticide made from a common soil bacteria” (140.) This quote proves that big organic industrial companies use pesticides to help produce grow.
Many people choose to eat only organic because it’s said to be healthier but when compared to non-organic food the difference is slim. Regardless people continue to buy organic products. People get emotionally connected to
This article focuses on the consumer trend of shoppers to purchase organic food. This source uses specifics, stating how Costco has seen an increase in the amount of organic products it sells. It also gives some background on what makes a product organic, and how it is grown differently than conventional products. This article shows that consumers are opting for organic food, and want to change their diet. This is from a source known as Mass Market Retailers, which is essentially a news site for supermarket, drug and discount chains.
“The term organic refers to the way agricultural products are grown and processed” (Segal); U.S. organic crops are all grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, bioengineered genes, petroleum based fertilizers, and sewage sludge-based fertilizers. In the lifecycle of “organic livestock raised for meat, eggs, and dairy products must have access to outdoors and be given organic feed”(segal). This results in organic foods being more beneficial in nutrients such as antioxidants, than their conventionally-grown counterparts (Segal). “Oftentimes people with allergies to foods, chemicals, or preservatives often find their symptoms lessen or go way when they eat organic
Are people who buy groceries from Whole Foods similar to the people to buy groceries from Aldis? Believe it or not, they are alike. Although Whole Foods customers tend to be wealthier and believe that generic brands do not taste the same, and Aldis customers tend to be middle class and in favor of generic brands, they both have a core value. Each customer wants to buy food that is mouthwatering to their taste. Not all people like the same foods; therefore, each individual will have their own opinion on what is “mouthwatering”.
To begin, organic foods do not have significantly better nutritional and health value than conventional foods. Many people choose to go organic because they want to live a “healthy, pesticide-free lifestyle”. Contrary to popular belief, organic farming actually does use pesticides. The word organic does not necessarily mean pesticide free. Organic food means that the pesticides used are derived from natural ingredients.
(Pollan). Since these people are able to savor fresh meats at an organic farm, they “don’t trust [other] meat” in local supermarkets because they are “not going to find fresher” food anywhere else besides an organic farm. By understanding that eating fresh foods and understanding where foods from supermarkets originate from, people are able to eat a healthy, honest diet. Therefore, spreading this information about organic foods allows all individuals to eat fresh meat or vegetables rather than processed foods from supermarkets. People will learn to look carefully at labels when grocery shopping and live honestly knowing what goes into their bodies.
Organic Food In the society where people are getting more concerned about one 's health organic food has become a widely spread and followed by many people tendency. Organic food is believed to have better impact on person 's well-being and not to cause harm to people and the surrounding world due to its ecological nature. The debate that has been recently developed around this topic cannot be solved easily since both supporters and their counterparts provide reasonable arguments supporting their positions. However, to get into the problem and find the answer to a question that concerns many people it is necessary to identify organic food at first.
Organic Food. It is the thing we’ve been drinking eating for decades but when does it stop. It might. If we don’t take our asses and eat some organic food we could be looking at a foodless future. And i understand that it’s not cheap.
