In a society where the world is it at your fingertips, you would think as american citizens we would be fluent in current news, events, tragedies, and miracles. However, with the Homan Square in Chicago, this isn’t the case. A black site is a place where people interrogate terrorists that may be a threat to the United State's. The black sites are located in discreet locations, just like Homan square is. These sites are in place for cruel interrogation. You would not be expect them to be used in the United States or on its own people. Recent evidence provided by The Guardian, a British media site, leaked information regarding the Homan Square scandal. When these allegations were brought to the public’s attention, the people were outraged. The Chicago Police Force was abusing their power over its citizens through harsh conditions and violence, taking police brutality to an extreme. In an interview recorded by The Guardian, William Kilroy made a statement claiming that “[Homan Square is] not set up as a booking facility [but as a] temporary holding cell.” At any other police facility, the criminal is supposed to be booked then interrogated. This preventative measure ensures citizens rights are maintained as well as protecting the officers from false accusations of unlawful procedures. According to Kilroy, there are 13 interview rooms in Homan Square and only three of those rooms have cameras. Kilroy also explains that once a detainee requests a lawyer, they are left alone with no outside contact for up to 15 hours. With no record of the majority of the interviews, there is no way to prove that the detainees were treated accordingly.
