For this final assignment, the leadership student was asked to identify and interview a woman or minority individual who currently hold a position of leadership. To stay in compliance with the chosen assignment, Mrs. Tiffani Harris, who is the Vice-Principal of Jackson Central Merry High School in Jackson, Tennessee, was asked to share her expertise in the area of education inner city students. Mrs. Harris has been the vice-principal of Jackson Central Merry High for 4 years. When asked for her assistance to fulfill all criteria for the assignment, Mrs. Harris gladly responded “I would be honored to assist you in your assignment Mr. Jones”. From that position she transitioned into the role of a secondary Math Supervisor. This position led to her title of Data Coach in the school community. Now for the last four years, she has helped the position of Assistant Principal and Data Supervisor. The next answer was “Describe your leadership style.” In response to this question Mrs. Harris stated that her leadership style is transformational. As a transformational leader, Mrs. Harris leads her collaborative team and students with vision and passion. Through her style, she lays the foundation for future leaders to learn and also become successful in their chosen leadership position. Mrs. Harris is a hands-on principal. Instead of just telling you how to do a specific educational task, she will show you how to do that task. This practice of transformational leadership, gives future leaders the tools required to pass down what they have learned from her to future leaders after them. Then Mrs. Harris was asked “What has you’re your largest challenge as a leader?” Mrs. Harris stated “Trying to convince adults to make changes for the unseen”.
