Tim Cook has a lot of accomplishments under his belt. He has multiple degrees, worked for a handful of common brand name computer companies, and is the current CEO of Apple, arguably the most well-known and decorated brand of consumer electronics. His rise to prominence was guided by a steady work ethic and the fundamentals of engineering; specifically industrial engineering. His ties with engineering and his applications of it in real life on a massive scale has inspired me and has urged me to work towards that elusive engineering degree that would set up a world of opportunities. Cook grew up in Robertsdale, Alabama and went to Auburn University. In both places, he was at or near the top of his class. His work ethic has been described by …show more content…

His ingenuity and passion for innovation has been evident in his keynotes and in the general workings of the company. Cook’s background as an industrial engineer has sparked his emphasis on product development. This idea has helped inspire me, as I want to create a product or service that is beneficial to the public. While I know the idea of creating something as well known as the iPhone is most likely not a possibility, looking up to Cook’s vision has given a notion of creative power in the engineering field that I would be able to follow. While all of these in its own right is impressive, Cook’s thick skin really proves to be the most impressive. This shows that engineers are always under pressure; whether it be finishing a project or coming up with a new idea. His cool demeanor helps in brushing off the harsh words as he keeps on working towards bettering his company and the world. This is a key component of a role model. Being able to reflect a great personality in situations of adversity, especially in the workforce and engineering field, sets a great example for future engineers. As Adam Lashinsky describes, Cook faces failure in the Apple Maps debacle and the initial launch of Siri. Both of these were subpar to the Steve Jobs Apple innovations. Stocks started falling, but the CEO took no notice and kept diligently at work to foster a new age of technology. Perhaps this was due to the industrial engineering approach of statistics, problem solving, and analysis. He knew everything wasn’t going to collapse and all he had to do was right the ship by keeping his system in check. He fired a few employees who didn’t fit the culture and hired those that did. Fast forward a few years and stocks are soaring again. His steady hand of managing Apple has kept it as a top company and a role model for everyone
