There are three major regime typologies • Liberal/residual-their ideology is based on equality. Creating a society where every individual’s interest is put into consideration Liberal regimes of welfare would tend towards lower levels of state intervention, leaving market-forces to establish a level of social security. Examples of such systems include the United States, The United Kingdom, and Australia. This represents a high level of decommodification. (Esping-Andersen1990) Liberals want to make workers as dependent as possible on the labour market so that they have incentives to work more to gain higher incomes. This is an example of a low level of decommodification. (Esping-Andersen1990) If the working class is poor and many of the citizens/residents are unemployed, then their negotiating power is weak, if they are highly decommodified and hence they don’t have to work it makes their negotiating power stronger. In the highly decommodified scenario they can demand better working conditions and increase in wages. (Esping-Andersen1990) Social stratification: social stratification is the grouping of people according to economic, social race or religious status. Indicators of social stratification included employment status, full-time work, education, occupation, industry, household income, firm size.
