It is a paramount objective of Walden University to create positive social change (which is intentionally practicing innovative ideas for the development and betterment of the society). The University is known for its value for integrity, truth, and honesty and expects all students to imbibe the culture of integrity, quality and self-centeredness, the school offers and teaches. Their expectation ranges from each paper submitted and every discussion made in the classroom between peers, staff, and coordinator to any part/phase of life. Academically, being a student of both international Relations and Public International Law, it is clear that making a change in a system is one of my major interests.

As a prospective college student, one looks for a wide variety of specific characteristics in a future home; A certain size, definitive mission statement, divergent student body, blossoming educational programs, and an abundance of opportunity were at the top of my list. I found all of these criteria to not only to be met by Drake University, but most were far surpassed. The institution seemed to be progressive and yet historic, accommodating to those for whom it was necessary while allowing vast amounts of freedom to all. Drake University appeared to be perfect in all regards, an utopia of equality. Shortly after moving onto campus, I discovered that my campus of bliss was not quite the fairytale story of impartiality I had been told.

Black Lives Matter and All Lives Matter both contain meanings and method that the other doesn’t agree with. In 2013, Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza created Black Lives Matter as a response and exposure to the injustice and treatment black people experience in America. Not to mention, black people fear they won’t be to accomplish anything while black (Rankine). Black people don’t receive the justice they deserve, such as Trayvon Martin. After the Black Lives Matter founders started the hashtag, the phrase “expand[ed]... beyond a social media hashtag” and enter the streets (blacklivesmatter.com).

An insight gained As I started my journey in pursuing my Masters counseling, I never considered the potential role and or impact I could possibly have on social change. It was this course that opened my eyes to the possibilities of what I can do in the realm of helping others. The opportunities for me to give back and help are numerous. I guess I had tunnel vision, and was blind to what I can to do help. I recall reading Walden’s Mission and Vision statements as one of our assignments and various stories of former students who have made an impact in their field.
From this article I learnt that it’s an important time for colleges to look at what they provide for their students and re-evaluate the key purposes of aneducation. Although a scholastic education will always be the main component of the college experience, an argument could be made that helping students make meaning out of their lives is equally important and necessary if the students are to live wholesome and fulfilled lives after
More than anything, Cornell is not about teaching its students about subjects but more about preparing them for the world in order for them to create a noticeable difference. Its program offers students with research opportunities guided by themselves with a vast number of resources. Instead of leading its students on a path, it allows them to take control of their own studies and become leaders. This sort of education entices me, grabbing hold of my determination to drive the movement for a constantly evolving society. Cornell will create the foundation for my innovative mind with its freedom to explore a multitude of courses.
I am delighted I have been able to be part of the Early Decision 2 pool as Fairfield University is the only college I want to attend. Ms. Stanton had said you are interested in the particulars of what about Fairfield appeals to me such that I know my former statement to be true. After a number of campus visits, countless hours spent on the website thoroughly reviewing Fairfield’s majors, minors, clubs and roster of programs, I feel familiar with the advantages of the plethora of learning and experiential avenues being a member of Dolan School of Business’ impressive Marketing major focused on product design and management with an Entrepreneurship minor offers me as an underclassman.
