Walden's Vision, Mission, and Goals This paper will address how Walden University’s Vision and Mission statements support in relation to a student’s goals to improve some element of the world around them. Part of Walden University Mission stamen is about “they can effect positive social change” (Walden University, 2016, para. 3) by providing programs that will have a component of public service conscious to the program. As a student this promotes awareness and allows a student to participate in solutions to improve social as well as business environments. Walden University’s envision that “knowledge [to be} judged worthy to the degree that it can be applied by its graduates to the immediate solutions of critical societal” (Walden University,
When I think of theology, I instantly want to break the word down. I have a science background and understand unfamiliar words by looking at their parts. For me, theology is theo- or God and -ology or the study of. From this, I understand theology to be the study of God. Studying God is most familiar to me as something that members of the historical clergy had the freedom to indulge in all the time.
In a cave lying on the southern border of the human country of "Walden", a group of twelve people clad in dark robes surround a farely large summoning circle and begin chanting. Off in the corner of the cave is a group of prisoners chained to the walls via cursed chains. Man, woman, elf, beastkin and children lay scatered about watching in horror as the red robed man unshackles another person and leads them into the center of the circle, slitting their throat without a second thought and using their blood to finish the circle. Twelve bodies lay in the center so far and each shackled person hopes the person next to them is the one to be taken. He slits the cattles throat and grabs his bowl.
As a prospective member of the Masters of Arts in History program at Liberty University I hope to accomplish several things. I am currently serving as a high school history teacher and this program will benefit both my students and myself alike in the foreseeable future. This includes reaching the goals of earning my master’s degree which will result in a higher level of professional knowledge in my content area, while increasing my income simultaneously. This is not the only positive factor, Liberty’s program will also contribute directly to growth in regards to my relationship with Jesus Christ.
My interest for the scientific area, what Heritage has to offer me, and what I bring to share with the community are the main reasons why I want to study at Heritage University in order to accomplish my academic and professional goals. Science is one of the most interesting areas that touch all kinds of life since a child I was interested in the science to become a scientist or doctor. For instance, during my high school years I took high level courses related to the science including Honor Chemistry, Honors Biology, and Principles of Biomedical Science. Further, I become more curious about the life in their all forms and of the non-ending knowledge that comes with. Beyond high school years, I have been involved in the scientific area due to the satisfaction that research and the possibilities that science brings into my life, how powerful one becomes with the knowledge and the actions taken after obtaining that experience.
My time here at the University of California, Santa Cruz has been one of the most interesting times of my life. I have learned so much, both academic and socially. I am a business management economics major and I am looking to go into the marketing industry. The problem is that at UC Santa Cruz, there is not a marketing curriculum.
Growing up in a nurturing and supportive family environment, I was ingrained in the belief that striving for excellence is not just a goal, but a way of life. My parents, particularly my father, constantly reminded me that I was a Champion, a Winner, and the Best of the Best, always assuring me of his unwavering support. Their encouragement fueled my ambition and shaped my worldview, instilling in me the belief that the sky is the limit. In selecting Morehouse College, I saw an opportunity to immerse myself in an environment that not only echoed the values instilled by my family, but also offered unparalleled avenues for unapologetic excellence.
I want to apply to UW-Madison because of my love for learning how humans work through psychology. As a child, I was always faced with the same question, “Why did they do that?” From then on, I always found myself analyzing every aspect from any angle I could. When I began taking social and government classes, another interest of mine, I found every point easier to understand because of my knowledge of psychology. UW became my number one because my mental health care team all have degrees from your school.
As an aspiring nurse, I would love to bring my past experiences to Towson University. I was incredibly privileged to have been selected to attend medical camp in the summer of 2014 with North Shore Long Island Jewish Heath System, the largest employer on the island I am from. There I had amazing hands-on experience and spent over forty hours shadowing healthcare professionals. This experience was transformative for me, because I discovered my strong for medicine and how nursing is the perfect career for me. This program put me on the track I am on in my life today and hopefully I can bring those experiences and the passion instilled in me from those experiences to Towson University.
Walden University’s College of Education has a similar vision. In the vision, Walden is “commited to the pursuit of positive social change through education.” The reason I am pursuing this degree is so that my students can do the same thing that Walden is teaching it’s students to do. All of the social activists, presidents and CEO’s in this world learned what they know from a teacher. They are able to impact the world, because they were given the tools to do so.
I will be a good fit for Mass Academy because I have a true passion for science and this school will help me achieve my goal in high school which is to strengthen my knowledge and develop a solid foundation in STEM related topics. Even though my current school offers great courses that target the areas of my interest, I feel that attending Mass Academy would be an outstanding opportunity to collaborate with others equally as motivated as I in order to achieve our individual, but similar goals. Moreover, my success at Mass Academy will completely rely on the motivation that comes from within myself, which is the environment I will be able to succeed the most in. Being a self-sufficient learner will give me the confidence and inspiration I need
The student-lead organization has taught me the inherent value of compassion and respect towards others, giving me the opportunity to further my understanding of life and its inhabitants in general. To bring forth change is to not force it; true and good change is a gradual process. To bring progress, one had to first understand the root of the problem. Student Council, while giving me volunteering opportunities, has given me the social skills to achieve my goals for the
In the essay Walden, by Henry David Thoreau, Thoreau takes two years to experiment with living in the woods on his own. He constructed his own cabin and was able to generate an income by cultivating a small plot of land and selling what it produced. Living on his own and being an outsider to those who lived a normal town life helped him figure out who he was mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. In addition, his experiment changed his view of society. As the experiment went on, he began to see how the American dream of owning a home may actually be a terrible idea.
In Walden, written by Henry David Thoreau, the author expresses the immense longing that we, as human beings, need to give up our connection to our ever-growing materialism in order to revert back to self-sufficient happiness. In Walden, the reader is able to infer that Thoreau feels as if we are becoming enslaved by our material possessions, as well as believes that the study of nature should replace and oppose our enslavement, and that we are to “open new channels of thought” by turning our eyes inward and studying ourselves. Thoreau feels that we are becoming enslaved by our material possessions. As stated in the chapter “In the Where I Lived, and What I Lived For”, Thoreau states that “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” (972).
“Stanley Fish attempts to provide support for his argument through claiming that character cannot be taught and that civic responsibility is not learnt in a classroom; however his claims do not subdue the various benefits of civic engagement in universities and he does not mention how freedom of expression and engaging in community activities would impair the students or the university’s performance. His shortage of sufficient support leads to the eventual breakdown of the points of view he is trying to convey.” Everyone can become a more engaged citizen through simple acts such as volunteering for a noble cause on weekends; it is these kind of actions that brings a community together for the improvement of themselves as individuals and as a whole group, and eventually, the achievement of the greater
