UW-Madison Personal Statement

I want to apply to UW-Madison because of my love for learning how humans work through psychology. As a child, I was always faced with the same question, “Why did they do that?” From then on, I always found myself analyzing every aspect from any angle I could. When I began taking social and government classes, another interest of mine, I found every point easier to understand because of my knowledge of psychology. UW became my number one because my mental health care team all have degrees from your school. They told me how wonderful the classes were and that like me, they were afraid. They explained that they felt more accepted and welcomed at UW than other colleges they have been to. My sister attends UW as a CeO scholar. I love hearing about all the opportunities I could take part in if I was already there. She is sure to answer all of my questions and give me all helpful information. She shares how many opportunities UW-Madison has offered her and how it has broadened her possibilities for learning. That’s what I’m looking for.

Particularly, I am interested in mental health. Mental illness is extremely difficult to diagnose, and I’m currently interested in patients with schizophrenia because generally, the viewer will think of someone that hallucinates or talks to objects. I thought the same thing and wouldn’t include it in an evaluation, but my sister told me about one of her professors doing extensive research in the area and is destigmatizing it. I would love to work with someone in the field, and with the research going on at UW Madison, it may actually be possible.
