As retired teachers, we know it is important to stand up and support what we believe is best for our community. That is why we support Michael N. Smith for the office of Superintendent for Regional Office of Education #11. We cannot afford the status quo. We need someone who can build and foster a positive working relationship with all schools within our region where an honest exchange of ideas and concerns can take place without consequences. We need someone who has the support of area administrators who respect the office and the person who holds that office.
When a school system, such as some in the Shelby County Schools District, falls into the bottom 5% of the schools in the state based on standardized test scores and Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) reports, the school is eligible to participate in a program called Innovation Zone, I-Zone for short (Shelby County Schools, n.d.). I-Zone schools tend to receive perks or privileges that most typically schools do not receive. The I-Zone program provides additional grant money to support the schools that are enrolled in the program. Since the I-Zone program receives extra funding, there is more money to put back into the students and teachers that typical schools do not have.
Administrative certificate aside, it is incredible the amount of tasks and duties administrator’s must handle while also being under a high amount of scrutiny. Administrators are ambassadors for their schools, with their actions, words, and appearance being constantly examined. Especially if the administrator lives in the district that they work in as does Mr. McCormick. Another eye-opening fact of this experience was just how much of an administrators job is kept separate from the day-to-day running of a school. Mr. McCormick talks about how most of the things he does are outside of school hours in anticipation of school events.
It is with tremendous respect and enthusiasm that I submit this letter as my request to be considered for the Principalship of the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies. My resume reflects 23 years of dedicated service to LAUSD’s students, parents, and staff as a teacher’s aide, teacher, counselor, English Learner Expert, Title III Instructional Coach, and Assistant Principal. My varied experiences at both the middle and high school levels bridges instruction across targeted population such as English Learners (ELs) and special education students as well as high-achieving and gifted populations. The board of education argument. Miss brown couldn't go to the school that was down the road from her house so her and her parents sued the board of education. The little black girl wasn't about to go to the school because of segregation. The pros about it is that miss brown can attend the school blocks away. The conse is that the white people might try to hurt her.
As the attached resume will highlight, I am currently a teacher at Air Academy High School, where I also serve as a literacy coach and a part of the 21st Century team. Through both of these experiences, I have been able to work closely with school administration to transform learning to meet the needs of the 21st century learner. While at Air Academy High School, I shadowed the Dean on many occasions to better prepare for managing the complexities of student disciplinary actions. My experiences in the classroom and as a leader in my building have equipped me with the innovative strategies to ensure that every students needs are met, whether academic, physical, or socio-emotional. Common Core is a widely debated topic here in America. However I feel like it shouldn't be because it violates one of our Bill of Rights, the 10th Amendment to be exact “the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the states Respectively, or to the people.” (10th Amendment in the Constitution) Therefore, it’s the individual rights of the states to decide if they want to use Common Core. But, I do feel like it's useless.
In a country that is always trying to fix its education system and always failing, the United States introduced another idea that is now called the Common Core. Common Core is a standard that details what a student in grades K-12 should know that school year.46 states initially had accepted these standards. Despite it being accepted recently, Common Core has been around since 2007 when it was first brought up during a meeting. Don’t be fooled though just because it was accepted by 46 states didn’t necessarily mean that it would be kept by those states. Rightfully so since then at least 13 states have asked to have these standards repealed and Indiana has withdrawn from the standard completely.
The Sioux Falls School District’s mission statement is “To educate and prepare each student to succeed in a changing world”. Our world is changing,especially the computer science word, faster than we can keep up. Futurists predict that most of my students are going to need, at least, as basic understanding, of computer programming, in their chosen career field. Because of this , I believe I need to offer as many, real-world experiences for my students as I can.
I want to become an assistant principal for one simple reason, the children. I believe that all children can learn under the right conditions. With this in mind, I feel that instructional leaders are responsible for ensuring that the conditions for learning are embedded in the school’s culture. Although my role as a Learning Team Facilitator enables me to have an impact on the academic achievement of students through working with teachers, I believe that becoming an assistant principal will help me to be more of a driving force throughout the school. I possess several personal attributes that are essential in serving in the capacity of an assistant principal.
With decades of research, it came to a conclusion that not all students learn the same way. Jeremy Roschelle is co-director of the Center for Technology in Learning at SRI International. In his research, he examines the classroom use of innovations that enhance learning difficult ideas in mathematics and science. Chad Lane has a Ph.D. and M.S. in computer science and wants to create educational technology that will compelling and engaging.
I’ve never heard about Common Core in relation to reading. With every interaction or Facebook post I’ve seen; it’s always been about one thing: how bad Common Core is at mathematics. I’ve never seen a teacher (past or present) complain about reading. I think this might be due to the fact I’ve never really researched Common Core. The state standards have never really been at the top of my list; I thought I could go on until the last possible moment.
To me, programming seems to align with everything in my life that was lacking security, normality, and “syntax.” Growing up acquainted with PTSD has allowed me to push through difficult times and stay determined. I believe that a person’s future is not based on the opportunities and privileges given to them but rather, the opportunities that they seek and go after. Therefore, my unfamiliarity with the world of computer science doesn’t stop me from being optimistic with my future scholastic success. I want to excel in a male dominant industry and be able to be in the position to empower other young women to go after their dreams.
I also attended weekly lectures, held office hours, and managed my own grade book. Furthermore, evaluations from my students revealed positive data about my overall effectiveness as a TA as well as areas where I was able to grow.
It also includes electronic devices such as calculators, portable devices for data collection and programmable toys. (The Open University 2016). In the ever-changing world of technology this allows computing to be used in all subjects across the curriculum. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communication technology.
