Planning and Preparation
1a. What do you do professionally to grow and develop your knowledge and skills in your content area?
I work closely with members of the 8th Grade ELA Professional Learning Community (PLC), and other grade levels and subject matter PLC, to share and develop new strategies to improve students’ knowledge of ELA skills. I am participating in updating the 8th Grade ELA pacing guide with the curriculum office, and attend professional development on instruction whenever the possibility presents itself.
1b. How do you use your knowledge of your students to plan instruction?
I work closely with students to learn likes, interests, skills, and ability. I also review analytical data provided form NWEA Reading test and other assessments to find a baseline. With that knowledge, I plan lessons,

How do you assess student learning and involve the student in monitoring their progress?
Each lesson has formal or informal assessments. Informal assessments are based on participation and answering check on learning questions. When I conference with students, we review their grades participation. On formal assessments, we review the assessment and students are encouraged to ask follow-up or clarifying questions. We also review before formal assessments. Grade are posted regularly in class and I follow up with students who are below 75%. This way they know exactly why they earned their score and how to improve.
Professional Responsibilities
4a. What data/information do your use to assess lesson effectiveness and make changes in your teaching?
I use the students’ assessment results as an indicator for how well the objectives are covered in CCSS. If several students are all getting the same question wrong, it acts as an indicator for objectives that need to be better covered in the lesson or that questions are not well written. In either case, I make the appropriate changes.
4b. What is your system for maintaining accurate and efficient
