Instructional Partner About Professional Learning Communities

For this assignment, I interviewed a fellow teacher and my school’s Instructional Partner about Professional Learning Communities. While they had some similarities in their answers, there was a clear distinction in each of their perspective. The classroom teacher focused more on the teacher’s role in a PLC, while the Instructional Partner defined a PLC as “a group of educators working together.”
The Instructional Partner compared a Professional Learning Community to “a football team where each player is working together (learning) for the team to win (students to learn).” She talked about educators working together to increase student learning. She believed “PLCs can be a great learning opportunity for educators, but to be successful educators must be committed and have a shared focus on increased student learning and the learning must carry over to classrooms.” She pointed out that “the learning of the group must be used to create change in individual classrooms and the school as a whole.” The individuals in the same grade, school, or school system, but thanks to technology can be individuals in different cities, states, or …show more content…

She stated that, “Teachers should get the opportunity to positively collaborate and share ideas about instructional strategies that work and don't work, and they should also explore new ideas and strategies as well. Teachers should also have the chance to observe other teachers in their school to see what strategies others are using.” She believed that school administration should “serve as leaders and facilitators, but teachers should also be able to do the
