Joanne Lipman wrote an article on “why tough teachers gets good results”. Teachers used to call students names and even physically correct them, in the today world they would have already been fired. Lipman doesn’t believe in calling kids names but he also doesn’t believe in this, “the conventional wisdom holds that teachers are supposed to tease knowledge out of students, rather than pound it into their heads”. There are eight principle and research that explain why the conventional wisdom is wrong. Tough teachers do get good results and they always will.
Since being enrolled in college I have been able to maintain a grade point average of a 3.4 or better for the two semesters that I have attended. Through the ups and downs that came with each semester, I have learned the value of putting in hard work and what it takes to achieve something one desires. Additionally, my academic performance has earned me spots in both the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society and the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. Furthermore, this summer I was able to intern with a pipeline design company, EN Engineering.

Now you free to “Set Your Goals”, but not just any goal; I’m talking about goals that are specifically set up by the knowledge you’ve obtained from doing your research. In the article it states “Ensure that your goals are specific, measurable, realistic and timely”. Now let’s take a second here to evaluate this scenario. You walk into the office and see boxes full of random stuff everywhere. Each one of these boxes weigh no less than 100 pounds.
A continued personal goal for me is to not only be the first member of my family to go to college, but also be the first to obtain my master’s degree. At an earlier age it was instilled that knowledge and education the ultimate key to success.
so I’m going to take action to reach my goals of my educations and future job goals. With Morisano’s and Shore’s article on Goal Setting it has taught me a lot about making goals and ways to reach goals. It goes into how to successfully set a goal. In the article there is a quote “We should see potential not as potential for being good at the handful of skills and acquisitions that can be developed at or gotten from school, but as the potential for realizing the possibilities of the spirit, the potential, more specifically, for selecting from and integrating school learning and other learning into a meaningful, worthy, passionate, and satisfying life path” (Grant, 1995) (Goal

You don’t want to set goals that are either too hard to achieve or sound unrealistic. When setting goals, you want to make sure their S.M.A.R.T goals and what that means is that their specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely. Some examples of some goals you can maybe set or think about are “I want to get an B in my Chemistry class” or “I want to end my college semester with an overall GPA of a 3.0”. I believe it’s important that when we do set goals that they are clear and specific. Something you wouldn’t want to say would be like, “I want to make good grades,” or “I want to learn as much as I possibly can” because both those statements are just not specific enough.
Everybody has ambitions that they hope to one day achieve. Whether they are short-term or long-term, goals are what help build the foundation for a successful future. I have goals myself, both personal and professional, that I intend to accomplish. These include acquiring a 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) for the current school year, officially declaring a college major and continuing to build upon my current knowledge base.
I want you to close your eyes and picture a goal you have. Not just any, but one you are willing to do anything for in order to accomplish it. I want you to start thinking of what makes you want to attain success. What is that primary driving force that makes you want to achieve it? Ultimately it all comes down to motivation.
I put forth goals this school year in PE using smart goals. Smart goals are specific goals that an individual 's set for themselves in order to challenge their athletic ability. Every four to six weeks a plan of action is produced for achieving the set goal. When setting a smart goal it is important to include a detailed description of the goal. The plan should include a description of the goal, how it will be measured, the attainability of the goal, its benefits, and the time period.
