Importance of YA Novels YA novels provide literary merit, just like any other novel, but they are most beneficial for developing teens. However, school administrators focus too much on implementing novel classics to the learning environment that they forget to appeal to students. According to United States studies, students associate reading with boredom rather than pleasure. With their introduction to American classrooms, YA novels will help reduce stress, connect to high school readers, and most importantly, guide teens to adulthood. School administrators believe that the literary classics help readers recognize the issues going on in the adult world. While this fact may seem true, the teens are not adults yet. The reason why teens feel alienated is because they don’t fit in with the smaller kids. They don’t fit in with adults. They don’t fit in with what society expects of them. YA novels stay with the reader because teens can relate to how the characters feel.
