Why Do Middle Schoolers Get Recess

Two kids are arguing in class, and another two are not paying attention to what the teacher is doing. Are you wondering why? Would you have acted the same way as these kids if you did not get a break? Middle school students agree that recess should be a part of the daily academic schedule. Recess gives the brain a break improving concentration and academic success. In addition, kids need time to grow responsibly by themselves. Finally, recess will help kids stay healthy and stay active. As a result, middle schoolers need recess as part of their school day.

One way of showing this, is a quote from the article “Turns Out Monkey Bars and Kickball might be good for the brain” and it states “Kids are better off if we just let them be kids and learn to accept each other on the playground.” This is explaining how the adults need to let the kids take of themselves when it comes to situations at recess like when they get into an argument. Another quote is stated in the same article, it states “We keep thinking as adults that we need to control the way they do things. I wish we'd get out of that. They know how to play, they know how to structure their own play.” This evidently means that adults do not always need to be supervising when kids are playing.
