Kids wouldn 't mature from school starting later, because if they get to wake up later, they will have life to easy. John wakes up every morning at 6:00, showers, eats breakfast, then goes to school, which starts at 7:30. Jane wakes up every morning at 7:30, showers, eats breakfast, and goes to school, which starts at 9:00. The question is, assuming both students take identical classes in schools with identical curriculums, which start time is more beneficial to the student? An earlier start to the day gives more time after-school for extracurricular activities and sports, while a later start helps students to get more sleep, be more aware during the school day, and get better grades in general. While both sides have their positives, and their negatives, one is clearly better than the other.
Everybody on this planet can agree that sleep is a beautiful thing. Whether your an adult, a baby, a younger, or an older child, it seems pretty clear that everyone of us can agree that we need more sleep throughout the week. Kids should have there schools start at a later time because that means more sleep! Although many of our bodies don't want to fully go to bed early, we still may want to have more time to sleep in the morning. Kids that have activities outside of or after school, get home late enough, along with sometimes loads of homework, and don't get to bed until an unnecessary late time.
⅖ of students who go to school who start at 8:00 or earlier only get 6 hours or sleep. And ⅔ of students who go to those schools only get 8 hours or sleep (sleepfoundation.org). Teens should get 9-10 hours of sleep per night so that they can do their very best during the day. If we had late start school, then students could do better in school and then that could affect their entire life. Why do schools start early if there are no benefits?

Teens struggle through the challenge of waking up very early in the morning so that they can be at school at the right time. Nevertheless, by being able to sleep more before school starts, students will be able to become well rested, more attentive in classroom settings, and perform better as learners.
Many surrounding cities and towns are starting to implement later start times for middle and high school students. Many of these schools are finding positive outcomes. Some reasons for these positive outcomes include improved learning and health and students being more awake. Provided it is implemented properly, students should be able to get more sleep, otherwise it could have negative effects. Maybe changing school start times for Windham would benefit the students learning.

Most teens that attend Winston Churchill High School will tell you that they want the school’s start time to be later than 7:45 a.m. My bus comes at 7:20 a.m. and I, along with many other kids need at least 30 minutes to get ready.
