During the Great Depression there was huge separation of wealth. This is one of the key problems in The Grapes of Wrath. Many families, including the Joads, were forced into starvation, homelessness, and migration because of the economic and natural problems facing the United States. Today this problem still exists. While it does not affect citizens in such a drastic way, many families are forced to live off of a lower income and suffer while the few hold a high percentage of wealth.
I have personally created works of art for my family members and seeing their reactions to my piece have given me a new found confidence. Having them show up to my plays and knowing that what I was doing was important made me feel self worth. I remember creating abstract art in elementary school and my mom was so proud of my work that she hung it up for everyone to see. It made me start thinking of professions that I would like to obtain and branched my love of education. I thank the arts for the person I have become and would love to see it’s continuation in education for future
Why I Chose My Major I chose Criminal Justice for my major because it’s appealing to me. As a child I looked up to police, and I was never scared to go up to them and just start asking questions and everyone I asked was always willing to talk back and knowing they did not even had to pay any mind to me at all being that I was so little to even know how the system worked but they did their best to explain it to me. One Police officer in particular I really looked up to Mr. Brad Garafola. He was a close family friend him and my dad grew up together. He was our neighborhood cop; he stopped by, while on patrol, at house to visit at least once a week to check up on us.
This spawned an inevitable future. By drawing stories that had already been written I started to then make my own stories and characters. Drawing became part of my identity. Both in my family and at school I was identified as an “artsy kid.”
My primary goal as a student is to grow as an artist and experience and explore all art mediums. I have already practiced both creating images from my mind, manipulating preexisting images, and doing observational drawings, and I have experimented in several areas, such as painting, (both acrylic and oil,) printmaking, digital art, and 3D mediums. I plan to exceed by using all the resources available to me at VCU, like communicating with other young artists so I may learn from them and grow alongside them. When I am around other artists in an art-driven environment, I know I will most likely be overwhelmed at first with all of the other creative minds surround me, and by the perceived pressure to be constantly creating more and more pieces.
If I had illustrated my life before now, it would have looked much like a M.C. Escher piece. Due to the combination of my poverty-stricken upbringing and my desperate cravings for a fulfilling life, there have been many instances where I felt as though I were the hand that was drawing a hand that was drawing itself. No matter the obstacle or opportunity that lay before me I couldn’t shake the overwhelming feeling of being locked in an inescapable paradox cage or trapped on the ever-ascending stairway that progressed nowhere despite the fact that I have been handed the directions out. However, the single impact of art changed my imprisoned outlook as well as my entire life. Most people like to imagine that art can come from out of nowhere and influence like nothing ever heard, seen, read, or felt before.
Do you want to be required to take an art class? Personally I do not want to be required to take an art class because then I would have limited options for classes, they’re subjective, and it’s not fair. Students should not have to be required to take an art class. Limited options for classes. If I were to be required to take an art class it could mess my schedule up.
Before I explain my second reason, I need to explain that I have taken an art class before at Los Angeles Valley Community College. The course consisted of art about the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians. Even though I did pretty well in the course and got an A, it required a lot of memorization, which I consider myself poor at doing. So putting aside that I am terrible at memorizing, I am somewhat interested in art. I’ve always wanted to be a good drawer
Art inspired me the most so I was focused and purely dedicated to make a product relating to art. I wanted to enhance my skills in the field of art.
In recent years, our public education system has heavily shifted to focus on STEM subjects, specifically math an science. But as we’ve undergone this shift in our educational priorities, fine arts education has been viewed more as a luxury, or even a waste of time. This assumption is false. Helping children and young adults learn to appreciate visual aesthetics is just as important as learning to measure angles, and definitely more practical in comparison to knowing the phases of mitosis. Art is more than just painting or sculpting, it can come in the form of visual learning and inventiveness, or becoming more culturally aware.
As young adults, graduating high school and entering the “real world” we are faced with numerous decisions about our future. The most important decision in this time period is choosing where we want to spend the next four years, furthering our education and getting a degree. I thought that I knew who I was and what I wanted when applying to college. My idea was to take a risk, so I chose to go to Penn State, University Park. Penn State was the largest, furthest school on my list of colleges.
They think studying liberal arts is a future of unemployment and uncertainty. But, it is important to override these belief because of the large opportunity for art majors in the world. My experiences as a child, influences, and mentors have inspired me to study art history at Belmont and I want to share my experiences and knowledge of my process. What drives you to study art and pursue a career in this impressive field?
An illustrator is a creator of art that helps a person visualise what you are reading. Illustrators create the drawings in the books you read. Imagine not having illustrations in books. Without illustrations do you think that you could picture what was happening? I know that I could not visualise what was happening if there was not illustrations.
1.2 Statement of Significance Art can do lots of things that can create powerful and great changes in ourselves. Artist is someone that is so hard to read if we fail to understand them to interpret the underlying meaning behind their painting because it is their getaway to express their emotions and desires to the community. To accomplish this, the artists are communicating with the society by delivering their messages through their artworks.
A college education is very important for me to obtain the career I want. College will provide me the knowledge and practice I need to be successful. Going to college will help me get accustomed to the pressure of the real world and will give me the opportunity to become independent. Graduating college is my number one goal in life. It would be an awarding payoff for all the hard work and dedication to my studies throughout high school.
