Have you ever stopped for a minute, and think about technology in our modern age? Do you think of how our world is influenced by the technology is used? As we look around us, technology has influenced the way our world works, and the way the world does things in more ways than one, whether it be great, or not so great. In the article, “Is Google making us stupid?” the author, Nicolas Carr states that he feels his mind is changing. Carr also states that it’s kind of hard for him to get into deep reading, the result he came up with was him using the internet frequently. For Carr, he once felt like a “scuba diver in a sea of words”, when he’s reading deeply, nowadays when he uses the internet to read articles, he feels as if he’s skimming across the surface on a jet ski. As humans, we make errors, more specifically errors in judgment. Other people use data as a way to keep track, and to make things neat. In “The Data-Drive Life”, Gary Wolf gives an example of how data can be very helpful. A British man named Robin Barooah was trying to quit drinking coffee. What he did, was he made a large cup of coffee, and removed 20 millimeters of it from his cup every week. Barooah did this for a total of four months until there was barely a sip of coffee left in his cup. After that, he considered himself cure of his caffeinated cravings, but was tempted to get a cup one day, thinking it would help him concentrate on some work he was doing. Barooah had some data that kept track of how many minutes was spent on focused work each day. To his surprise, coffee didn’t help with concentration.
