Kids and others frightened at the sights they saw when the blackness rose, skin burned off, people holding an organ, and many other frightening things. Was the dropping the bomb in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki justified? Do others believe it was a good idea? The correct answer is we don’t know. Just like many other political statements, millions disagree on this topic.
On the clear mornings of August 6 and 9, 1945, the first atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagaski. Gigantic clouds of ominous dark smoke stained the sky, signaling the end of a seemingly incessant war. Americans and Europeans rejoiced throughout the world; many lives were spared from the brutality of continuing the war. Although this was an extremely hard decision to make and the results were devastating, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a military necessity. To begin, America had already seen how ruthless and cruel the Japanese could be.
On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city, Hiroshima. This, in turn, killed over 90,000 people both before and after the collision and turned 4 square miles of the city into rubble. Now, the question that comes to mind; Was dropping the bomb on Hiroshima the correct thing to do? The answer I have come up with is that it was, in fact, a good decision. It helped the war in the Pacific end quicker and decrease the number of casualties.
The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the first and only time an atomic bomb was used. The bomb killed thousands of innocent Japanese civilians, and left few survivors. The Allies thought of using the bomb because it would instantly end the war, and it did, but at the cost of many innocent lives. The bomb was also used as a factor to demonstrate the power of the US, and was supposed to help push other countries out of several countries. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was unnecessary because it gave little benefit to the Allies and led to thousands of innocent lives lost.
In an attempt to get Japan to surrender to the Allies, in August 1945, the United States dropped two atomic bombs on the nation. The first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and the second on Nagasaki. Although these bombs did contribute to Japan’s surrender and the end of the war, the use of this atomic weapon was an irrational and horrible decision. The United States should have abstained from using the two atomic bombs on Japan for the sake of civilian lives and possible alternatives to their decision. These bombs not only had detrimental effects on Japan, they also led to an arms race amongst several nations.
Although Harry S. Truman said that the bombs saved the Japanese from thousands of casualties, it caused even more, and especially worse suffering. In Hiroshima, the death toll was between 80,000 to 120,000 people. The Nagasaki bomb killed 35,000 to 74,000. Even after the bombing there were more people dying from radiation, scarcity of food, and overall horrible living conditions. To end the horrific ongoing crisis, Truman made a thought-through decision to allow the two bombs to be dropped. Although over fifteen hundred thousand individual’s lives were shattered, after the two final atomic bombs were dropped, when Japan surrendered millions of lives were saved, the Soviet Union had been intimidated into leaving Japan alone, and the war was no longer prolonged after four whole years of horror.
It was a calm August morning in the year 1945, and citizens were out living their lives as normal, getting groceries, playing at the park, and walking to work, little did everyone in what was the beautiful town of Hiroshima know, there was an atomic bomb right above their heads. On August 6th, 1945, in Hiroshima the bomb killed approximately 80,000 Japanese people. Three days later, another bomb in Nagasaki killed about 90,000. The Nuremberg Trials decided who should be blamed: America or Japan. Japan was out of line of starting the war with America and bringing them into something that they were not a part of.
