“There is a lot of hype and fear over this much-talked- about prospect of designer babies” Leon Kass has once said. Designer babies are baby humans whose genetic makeup is modified through genetic engineering, which allows parents to choose certain genes that the baby will or will not have. The idea of designing babies should be banned since it will lead to a gap in the society, and a loss of individuality. First, the process of designing your own baby will create a disparity between individuals of the society. For instance, a designer baby costs about (367,250 DHS) a colossal amount of money which proves that only the rich can afford it. A survey conducted by Pew research center showed that only a few are able to pay for designer babies because the price is so extreme. This is also why so many people are in disagreement of designer babies, since they are unable to afford the price range like the wealthy are. Through which, many people will choose babies who are good looking, smart and perfect in every aspect; this will eventually cause a lack of genetic diversity. A poem named “designer baby” by Amanda Hodor explains to the reader that perfect genetic babies may seem like a good thing to have, for who wouldn’t want a child having perfect manners as well as a perfect appearance. However, the author appeals to our emotions through the lines (But maybe children need to be/ Who they choose and want to guess/ Make mistakes and learn how/They can make their parents proud/Not be little pieces/Of pre-chosen dishes) emphasizing that mistakes and imperfections should naturally shape each child’s personality instead of developing them such that they come to exist
