Imagine teenagers across the country, stumbling through their homes at five thirty in the morning to prepare for the day. By the time they put on clothes and brush their teeth, they have to make a choice between arriving at school on time and eating breakfast. This is the reality for many school aged children every morning. Medical research studies have concluded that adolescents’ biological clocks are not programmed to wake up early and go to bed early. Instead, it is recommended that they wake up around ten in the morning. and go to bed after eleven at night. School systems should heed medical advice and move the starting time of schools back two hours. The starting time of schools should change because teenagers would learn more information. Students being more awake and alert during classes would increase their absorption of knowledge needed in their future careers. They could learn about something they never realized interests them. The doctor who is going to cure cancer or diabetes might be sitting in the back of the classroom sleeping through biology because it is too early in the morning to function. The president who is going to cure this country of debt could be daydreaming against the wall in economics. When these teenagers become employed, they cannot work whenever is convenient for them; so, school should not be changed to please them. In reality, once teenagers are old enough to work at a serious job, such as in the medical field or the technology field, their biological clock will be adjusted to adult life.
