West Career and Technical Academy Prompt #1:
Throughout this semester in the class, Freshman Studies, I have things I should and shouldn’t apply to the rest of my high school experience at West Career and Technical Academy. From the About West Project and College Project, I have learned many of my strengths and weaknesses. Throughout my About West project, I have found that, “While you can learn from your mistakes, you can also learn from doing well”(Steinberg, 2017, About West Reflection Essay). I found things that teachers and my peers like to watch, and took those things and built upon them to make a better presentation. One thing I was especially pleased with was the flow of my presentation. There are a few things that I really needed to improve upon. One of those things was citing my sources. I will use the strengths to my advantage for the rest of my high school experience. Some of these includes my ability to edit videos and come up with BRILLIANT IDEAS to make them entertaining to the audience, and my little, to no, grammatical errors in my essay. Everybody has a weakness, and mine, throughout my projects, I struggled, greatly, with citations. This is my first year using the APA format, and I have gotten TOO MUCH practice throughout this class with it. I have definitely improved on them since the About West project; however, I am not the master at doing them yet.
I have learned many things throughout Freshmen Studies, between the About West project, and College Project. These, good habits, I will use throughout my high school, college, and hopefully, the rest of my life so I improve at writing, video making, citing sources, and not get into piles of debt!
