3.5 - Explain how the application of management theories guides a manager's actions. How hands on the manager would need to be is dependent on the team and their behaviour and which theory is to be used. Hersey and Blanchard’s theory is a situational leadership model, this model can be used with new staff you would start at stage one which is telling, this is directing the member of staff and the staff having high dependency on the leader, the leader would then move onto the next stage of selling this is to coach the member of staff and ensure the member of staff does not become distracted , then onto the third stage which is participating this to facilitate and begin to detach from the staff member the final stage is then to delegate to the confident staff member. The aim of the leader would to develop the new member of staff throughout the four stages. 3.6 - Explain the operational constraints imposed by budgets. Constraints to the operational imposed by budget can be staffing level and sickness cover which both can eat into the budget and cost the department. This is then fed across all departments and is linked to specific job roles objectives, allowing outcomes and performance to be measured, this will enable the business to track progress of the business objectives, and the performance measures will highlight any area of improvement needed .Kaplan and Norton’s score card can be used to monitor and show how each department are contributing to the overall objectives. The balance score card monitors customers, financial and learning and growth which all can be benched marked against previous year’s performance and compared to show areas of improvement and outline future objective
