Action Plan # 1 Assemblywoman Cheryl Brown Through group discussion it was decided that the first course of action would be to show support to Assemblywoman Cheryl Brown. The group deliberated that the strategy needed to support Assemblywoman Brown was to design a letter of support directed at her efforts. This letter was considered beneficial as it would promote Assembly Bill 1584 with the goal to show Assemblywoman Brown that this group is in favor of reinstating the cost-of-living adjustment and increasing the monthly payments that recipients of the Social Security Income and State Supplementary Program currently receive. Since consensus was reached, a letter was drafted for Assemblywoman Brown.
Dear Shanna Adkisson: I have lived in Moore for the majority of my life, and I am writing in response to a recent article posted on October 21st that proposes a one cent sales tax increase to raise funding for education. From the article I understand that this decision could raise about $615 million a year for Oklahoma education. Having only been out of primary education for 6 years and continuing my education, I support efforts to increase the funding and effectiveness of Oklahoma education. It’s not a secret that Oklahoma teachers make significantly less than the national average. Accompanying this along with the fact that that teacher to class ratios are unproportioned and classroom tools are lacking.
In some schools spending per student exceeds $10000 per year but the graduation rate is below 50 percent for example in Detroit. Detroit spends about 11100 per year on each student but only 25 percent of their student’s graduate high school. Policymakers should focus on reforming policies and resource allocations to improve student achievement. According to the National Center for Education Statistics 52 percent of public Education expenditures are spent on instruct and this percentage keeps decreasing overtime. Children who benefit from the school choice program usually have higher test scores than their peers.
(Patrick) About a year or so after that group of girls spoke to her, I had a personal conversation with one of them and she has informed me on how much more she values her education from the experience. School reform, as well as school itself, should be utilized to benefit students in every way possible and I see no better way to do that than putting them right into
Most failing schools are held in urban area in which poverty and the environment are prevalent and affecting the students and teachers. As noted by Joshua Childs’ and Jennifer
The Senate Confirmation Hearing over Betsy DeVos and her possible position as Secretary of Education took place on January 17, 2017. In her opening remarks, DeVos made it quite clear that she does not believe traditional public schools are a good fit for every child. " Parents no longer believe that a one-size-fits-all model of learning meets the needs of every child," she said. "And they know other options exist, whether magnet, virtual, charter, home, faith-based or any other combination."
Issues in Texas Education Education is a very important topic to me and many other people in this state. The technology in this world has become a great tool for the education system but with technology comes a price. And our government doesn’t seem to realize schools need more money to be able to teach their kids more effectively and keep them involved and entertained in the subjects they are learning. From 2007 to 2016 the overall expenditures of the education system have increased by 18.3 Billion dollars. That is a major increase in funding that the Texas government isn’t noticing that we need more money to fund our local school.
Students tend to take advantage of the school’s supplies and often mistreat them, since it is not one of their personal belongings. Textbooks, for example, are widely available in all schools, however, not in good condition. Sponsorships can assist. Let’s say hypothetically that the California Republican Party is willing to sponsor for new history textbooks. There are thousands of kids and textbooks costs nearly 200$ each.
One issue with education is the No Child Left Behind law. Marco Rubio supports this law. Under No Child Left Behind, schools that fail to meet Adequate Yearly Progress for 5 years must implement corrective measures, including restructuring or firing the principal and teachers. As an additional consequence for failure, low-income students should be eligible for Opportunity Scholarships to attend another public, charter, private or parochial school, or have access to supplemental online services of their choice. Another former president, Barack Obama thinks that we left the money behind with this law.
School Funding Inequality “One of the most powerful tools for empowering individuals and communities is making certain that any individual who wants to receive a quality education can do so” (Christine Gregoire). Everyone deserves an equal education regardless of where they live or who their parents are. Children are facing the consequences of decisions they can’t make. The current way public schools are being funded is not working effectively, students are suffering and there needs to be a change.
As I walk into my school I see, spray paint stained walls, bathrooms with only one working sink and mirrors stained with curse words and scribbles written in sharpie. My classrooms are filled with classroom sets of textbooks and a wall lined with computers that don’t turn on. This is the life of not only me but almost every underfunded public school in Florida. Across the state many students are forced to endure the academic barriers of underfunding in their schools. In Florida public schools, particularly high schools, underfunding is a wide spread pandemic that negatively affect students statewide.
When children do not have access to primary and secondary education, it is common
Schools receive funding for each student and with Detroit’s school which used to accommodate many students, they are no longer being utilized fully caused a major financial burden. In the perfect world it is better for a school if their building is being over utilized rather than under utilized. School district managers usually use the argument that schools that are under utilized should be closed because they are no longer cost effective
There are 10 main reasons why there are so many children out of school around the world. For children in poor countries or are in conflict they may not have a school to go to or they don't have a teacher who has had experience or training to teach those children. A lack of funding for education Although there are developed countries willing to donate to schools in developing countries but in recent years the money provided has decreased for three years in a row. This has resulted in a 16% decrease between 2009 and 2012 meaning the aid provided is the same as in 2008.
Increasing school funding may cost money but it would help the future of
