Daniel Toffey CSCFFS 2990 10/20/17 One company that I’m interested in working, and interning at is Foresters Financial. This company mainly caught my attention because it related so well with my major, and focused a lot on giving back to the community and not just helping people who would seek them for advice. The company goes back out into the community and informs potential customers on how they could gain financial strength. Forester Financial services provide individuals and families with different financial solutions as well as guidance on how they can meet financial needs throughout their different life stages.

PGCE personal statement What motivated me to choose teaching is my passion for mathematics, which I have always found beautiful, exciting and constantly challenging. I was introduced to the subject through puzzles and games, much like Gardner’s column in the Scientific American, during a class of recreational mathematics called “Fun Mathematics”. The feeling of exhilaration has stayed with me ever since and if there is one thing I would like to impart to children, that would be it. My first experience of working with children was gained while volunteering for a humanitarian project in rural Mozambique, where among other things, I prepared, organised and delivered sports and educational activities for children aged 5 to 16.

I believe in helping others. Having a big heart for every living creature, I always look for an opportunity to make a difference to my community. After I realized I wanted to build my career in a people-oriented industry, I’ve acquired multiple work and volunteering experiences in both health and education fields. Now that I had an amazing experience of working as a Business Analyst Intern in Takeda Pharmaceuticals, I’m thrilled by the idea of becoming a Business Analyst at Health Shared Services BC, where I could bring my passion for customer service, my experience of project support, and my knowledge of supply chain and business technology management. Last summer, as I mentioned before, I had a position of a Business Analyst Intern at Takeda

It is my firm belief that the CPA license is an assurance of quality. The task of obtaining this license takes a lot of hard work and persistence. This in itself is the reason why I believe that obtaining a CPA license would be beneficial to my career path. It validates to potential future employers that, as an accountant, I have mastered key concepts of the profession while on the other hand it gives a similar assurance to clients. In addition to obtaining the license, it is my belief that an effective CPA should also show leadership and ethical behavior.
Ever wonder where all the money has gone since last payday? When I receive my income tax statements (W2’s) in the beginning of each year, I always wonder what I spent all of that money on throughout the last year. Normally, I don’t question the amount of money that I receive on a weekly or bi-weekly basis as much as I do when viewing my yearly income statements. I chose to create a budget to save at least six months’ worth of all my monthly expenses in the event that I am ever unemployed or my health prevents me from working. Although budgets are hard to stick to, I always use them to keep track of spending habits and as a tool for saving money for emergencies.

Becoming a CPA would provide me with so many opportunities for growth in the accounting profession. There are so many industries, specializations, and positions that an accountant could pursue when they get their CPA designation, and I would love to be able to experience some, if not most of them. While the designation does create many opportunities, it is also a requirement is you want to advance within public accounting. During my internship at Ernst & Young last summer, I was told that to get promoted and receive more responsibilities in assurance I would need to get my CPA designation within two years of starting full time. Therefore, I am extremely interested in, and am currently studying for, the CPA in order to start my journey in getting certified and experiencing all of the amazing opportunities that the designation can provide.

My interest in Accounting stemmed from my optimistic expectation about career development in this field. Accounting is so important in the business world that only on the basis of accounting information, management is able to make investment decisions, and optimize internal operation. Thus, it is widely applied to every business sector. However, due to a strange combination of circumstances, I was matriculated by Biology and Medical Engineering College, instead of the Economic and Management College, in which I could accumulate the knowledge that would allow me to realize my career ambition. Changing major was not easy to operate in our university.
