Ever since grade school, I was passionate about working in the field of medicine, and science. I enjoyed anatomy, medical spelling and terminology, and reading about the healthcare industry. Because of my passion for healthcare, I decided to to attend Health Sciences High. There, I was given the best opportunities, such as, medical internships and college health courses. My plans and goals had turned me into a mature young adult.
Every choice I make defines me as a person and as a leader. I realized the importance my decisions after a dilemma I was put in during my senior year in high school. Attending the Air Force Academy and becoming an Air Force officer has been a dream of mine ever since the sixth grade. Since that moment I changed my attitude on many aspects of my life to achieve my dream to attend the Air Force Academy.
After the first 60 minutes of lecture in my first Commercial Space Operations class, there was no doubt that I had found my passion. I was fascinated by the growth of the commercial space industry in our society, the engineering behind those suborbital and orbital space vehicles, and most importantly I was fascinated by the adrenaline I felt while listening to my lecture. “In every walk with nature, one receives more than he seeks.” Wildlife, pertaining to animals and nature in general, has the ability to heal a human’s soul. Wildlife is more important than society sometimes realizes and plays a huge role in everyone’s day to day lives. The passion I have for animals, nature, and the environment is why I chose to major in Wildlife, and I decided to participate in this learning community to form bonds with those my age who have similar interests as myself. When it came time for college applications and choosing a major, the decision was a no-brainer for me. Actually, I didn’t even know Purdue offered a Wildlife major until about a week before I starting filling out applications because I had previously planned on going into nursing.

I believe that by attending NYU, I will acquire the knowledge that I need in order to excel as a dentist. With a combination of world renown professors and state of the art clinics, I undoubtedly know that I will be given the opportunity to learn the knowledge I desire. When looking at NYU College of Dentistry, I see myself flourishing, not only as a dentist, but as a person. During my time as a Psychology undergraduate student at San Francisco State University (SFSU), I was exposed to many different perspectives in the field, and it made me realize that I wanted to pursue a career researching cognition and the workings of the brain. The world is a very interconnected complex system that allows for all types of movement and growth. Globalization is an example of this because it itself can be defined as the system of breaking down barriers between the worlds people and fostering a larger world community growth. Nation-states are the ones who have to foster this bonding because if not then the world would continue to be separate and not as uniform as it is today and can be in the future. Globalization has had appositive impact on the United States. As the U.S. enters a time of more and more globalization, the U.S. being defined as a nation state may not be needed anymore.
In applying to the graduate program in philosophy, I hope to further my research into the three main areas that I have studied as an undergraduate: moral philosophy, logic and ancient philosophy. My foremost interest lies in moral philosophy, including issues in metaethics, normativity, and constructing moral theories. As an undergraduate I have taken several upper-division courses in moral philosophy; varying in topics from metaethical theory (e.g. practical reason and normativity), Kantian ethics (I am a participant in a graduate seminar in the German department on the formation of Kant’s ethics) and contemporary ethics (including a graduate seminar with [Professor X] last spring). My honours thesis (which is included as my writing sample) focuses on T.M. Scanlon’s contractualist ethics and how it deals with issues such as obligation and retributivism, two other areas I have spent a great deal of time researching.
Engineering is an aspect of our society which I believe is essential and is rapidly growing, becoming more and more fundamental; the most prevalent of which being electronics, governing nearly everything from transport to medical to recreational use. Throughout my life I have had family members working and being involved in many different aspects of engineering; ranging from computer based electronics to mechanical and motorsport engineering, which has fed my interest in the subject. For me this means that electronics and technology has been a consistent aspect over the majority of my life.
