There have been many talks about affirmative action and how it relates to the topic of inequality. “For a long time, the debate over an affirmative action was a proxy for discussing race and inequality.’ (Chang, 20) At first, affirmative action wasn’t a term used for equality between different races, but now it sparks up conversation what people need to do to get their rights. Many black families moved to the suburbs for the same reason as other white families, but they didn’t know they weren’t being treated the same way. “Even if Prince George’s County suburbs were high income, they too had been redlined by race.”
Ogletree Jr. in his case for affirmative action, states that affirmative action must be kept and put into use. He argues it is a way of compensating African Americans in particular and social minorities through difficult times such as slavery, segregation, Jim Crow laws and discrimination through immigration. But coming to affirmative action, we have to remark the sad history behind it, which is once again to disadvantage a group for another one. Affirmative Action: Pros and Cons As for the racial inequalities, it is worth mentioning that it was the matter of great concern for the black population; despite the fact they deserved to have same human rights, it still appeared impossible goal for this category of people that the dominating whites considered as inferior to them.
