One thing that many Americans overlook in their daily schedule is physical activity. Exercise is the key to staying healthy and having a long life. Physical activity has numerous benefits which are not limited to just one’s body, but to one’s state of mind as well. Exercising can also serve as a way to release stress and even fight common problems like depression. Staying fit is one activity many Americans need to aspire to. Some of the best benefits of staying in shape are health related. Regular daily exercising can help keep anyone’s heart healthy. The heart is the one of the most important organs in the body, and keeping it healthy can help lower one’s blood pressure and cholesterol levels. This in turn reduces risks of diseases such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes. By exercising the muscles, the body trains itself in delivering oxygen and nutrients to the tissues, which helps the cardiovascular system. Physical activity also helps the lungs function better. When the body is exerting itself, the lungs do the job of bringing oxygen into the body, provide the necessary energy, and remove carbon dioxide created when one produces energy. Other parts of the body that benefit from physical activity include the muscles and bones. Exercising the muscles helps increase them in capacity. Muscle strength and mass decline with age, but regular exercise prevents this and helps keep your joints healthy, which could potentially increase one’s lifespan. This outstanding number works out to more than 115 million Americans affected by stress, and getting some physical activity can help reduce that stress. Taking part in some physical activity can also boost endorphins, which create feelings of happiness in the brain. This boost of happiness can help deal with common problems such as depression. Depression has grown to be a more common problem over many years, to a point where suicide has become the 8th leading cause of death in America. To prevent depression and more premature deaths, an easy solution is to start integrating exercise into our routine. Exercise also greatly helps in improving self-esteem and reducing anxiety, which can lead to a boost in confidence in one’s everyday interactions with people. Physical Activity is also known to boost brain power and sharpen memory. Various studies on mice and men have shown that cardiovascular exercise can create new brain cells and improve overall brain performance.
