Animal Testing: The Only Choice?
Audience: Companies that use animal testing
Format: Argumentative Today, over 100 million animals are being tested on to see how a product works. So, is it right for a cosmetic, drug, food, or chemical company to blind a rabbit or harm a monkey just to see if a product will be harmful to humans? Animal testing should be banned because it is cruel and hurtful. Having looked at many gruesome pictures and videos of the testing, the animal’s appearance is very horrifying. The look of sadness on each animals face shows how harmful these tests are. The companies that still test on animals should consider trying the cruelty-free way, and then compare the results. According to the HSI, Humane Society International, “Modern non-animal techniques are already reducing and superseding experiments on animals . . . there is currently no such legal imperative, leaving scientists free to use animals even where non-animal approaches are available” …show more content…

Many scientists have produced new ways for these companies to test the products that do not include animals. According to Greg Mone, a writer and author in Boston, “. . . experts say the research [animal testing] is progressing faster than they expected. Regardless of the exact timing, the scientists insist some combination of laboratory-based and virtual work is the future of testing. . .toxicologist Bette Meek says ‘In vitro and in silico testing will play a much larger part in how we assess chemicals in the future’ ” (2).
