In chapters six and nine of Annotations, Professor Bazian provides a historical analysis of the dichotomies within race (in Confronting Race in America ch.9) and religion and philosophies (in “Islamic Reformation” and the West living in Our Minds ch.6). In chapter six, he explores the idea of an “Islamic Reformation,” a European idea inspired by Martin Luther’s actions and his disagreement with the Catholic Church. There has been a push for “Islamic Reformation” on the basis of political and social reformation. But as previously noted, this idea was initially introduced by Europeans. Professor Bazian argues that the way this “Reformation” has been constructed is critical because it was initiated by an external agent and it is based on a European

The course readings have helped me better understand why I have resisted and not learned Bengali. Kohl (1994) talks about his experiences of not learning Yiddish, which similarly relates to my situation. Kohl (1994) argues that he did not want to learn Yiddish primarily because of his mother. Kohl (1994) talks about how his mother could not speak Yiddish and was not included in the conversations at their family parties (p.3). I also believe I resist learning Bengali because I know that my family and friends cannot speak it.

Citation Stating the source of the information, used in our paper, assignment from books, websites, electronic media and other resources. Why Do We Cite? The reason we provide citations are to give credit for thoughts, ideas, and other information which we borrow from other people and to help readers get the source of information included if they want to get more information about those pieces. There are two citations: in-text citation and full citation. The in-text citation gives an idea where the ideas and the words in the work cam from and in-text citation reference the full Citation at the end of paper.

The annotated bibliography is an important part of the research process. The annotated bibliography helps students identify credible sources and summarize the valuable information they can pull and incorporate into their writing. This type of assignment “also provides insight into the research process undertaken by students due to its reflective nature… students used the annotated bibliography assignment to reflect upon their searches, and demonstrate evidence of research strategy revision, which was not as easily ascertained from final written papers” (Carbery and Leahy). By assigning an annotated bibliography, I can make sure students are taking their research seriously and I can monitor their progress on the final writing assignment.
