He was one of many children that Zeus and Leto had. Apollo had a twin sister named Artemis it is said that they both shared an aptitude for archery. Fun fact Artemis was born first then nine days later helped give birth to her brother Apollo. Although, Apollo came 2nd in birth he did not come 2nd in life. Apollo was a celebrated god for the Greeks, and his stories are intertwined throughout their culture.

It is said that Cyparissus had a favorite companion who was atamed stag. Unfortunately, Cyparissus accidentally killed him with his hunting javelin. Cyparissus grief was so bad that he eventually transformed into a cypress tree, symbolizing morning.
His other known male love was Hyacinthus, this was a handsome youth who caught the eye of not just Apollo but also, Zephyr, the god of the west wind. This is never a good sign when two gods wanted the same thing. In order to make it fair they decided they needed to play a game, they choose discus. Discus back then is the same as it is now they see who can throw a discs as far as possible. The gods began the game, Zephyr started and threw far but not far enough. One being Niobe, the story starts with Apollo's mother Leto, Apollo knew it was his job to always protected and defended her, in one situation in particular. Niobe was a woman who had 14 children, and she loved to brag about every single one of them and how she had 12 more than Leto. Without considering Leto’s children’s abilities she just kept bragging finally Apollo and his sister had had enough. They went down to Earth and kill 13 of her children it is said they left the youngest little girl to suffer. The youngest grew so sad from missing her brothers and sisters that her skin turned white for the rest of her life. The mother on the other hand cried, and cried she never stopped. Zeus felt bad for her and turned her into a crying
