It was a regular school day and Mr. Guttenberg was sending his daughter Jamie off to school. Later that same evening, he finds out that his 14-year-old daughter had been shot and killed in a school shooting. (ABC News). This seems unreal to hear of kids being shot in a supposedly safe place. Though for many Americans, the unthinkable is a reality because of the rapid increase of gun violence in the U.S. Although U.S citizens have the right to own and carry guns, the U.S needs to have more extensive gun control laws in order to keep guns out of a criminals hands , as well as mentally ill people.

Enough is enough. Together as American Citizens, we need to work together to pass Legislation to protect innocent lives of human beings. For example, there was a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school that killed six and seven-year-old children (less gun violence). These are kids who have yet to live their lives. These children never got to finish their education, get married, or have kids because a gun took their lives. Many argue that the problem isn’t the guns, it’s the people. The guns are not the ones killing people it’s the person who shoots the gun that is doing the killing. Many also believe that more people base approaches could stop gun violence. In spite of this fact, the people are not the whole problem. The guns are what is letting the killing happen. The big issue is that criminals and people with mental health issues should not be able to legally buy guns. By passing Legislation to have more gun control, gun owners with a clean mental health record and criminal history are not going to lose their guns. The purpose of passing more Legislation is to prevent the death of people who deserve to live. Studies show that if we enforced a
