Damaged organ, or tissues due to diseases is really common. Hospitals and clinics from all around the world, welcomes more and more of patients affected by those disease. Right now the only treatment is organ transplantation, but scientists are researching on a new cure, based on stem cells. For more than 30 years according to “Frequently Asked Questions” scientist were experimenting, and testing the potential use of stem cells, to come up with a new way to treat those disease and repair the tissues or organs. Stem cell treatment may be a new potential way of regenerating damaged tissues and organs.

The best use of stem cells is probably the “generation of cells or tissues that could be used for cell-based-therapies”(“Frequently Asked Questions”). …show more content…

They also serve as an internal repair system for damaged tissues (“ Medicals News Today”). There are two major types of stem cell, the adult stem cells, and the pluripotent embryonic stem cell. An adult stem cell can renew it self or become a new type of cell, and it’s role in the body is to repair and maintain the tissues according to “Stem Cells Research”. An adult stem cell will stay in the same region in the human body, stationary, until a disease activates them. Embryonic stem cells come from a human embryo in the blastocyst stage (“Understanding Mature Tissues or Organ Stem Cell”). They are capable to divide themselves into any new cells, because they are pluripotent that can either stay a stem cell, or “become another type of cell with a more specialized function, such as a muscle cell, a red blood cell, or a brain cell”. (“Medical News Today”) According to “Using adults Embryonic Stem cells for Tissues Regeneration” stem cells are different from other cells because of two characteristics: they are not specialized in any function of the human body; they are able to renew themselves through the process of cell division. And they can be used to replace damaged tissues or specific organs. Depending on the damaged organ, the stems cells may divide under certain conditions. The heart is one of those organs. This means that only some treatments can be put into use on patients that need it. One possible one would be the transplantation of blood cells to cure some immune systems disease. So even if some are effective with positive results most of them are still not approve as a safe treatment to take. Also “Different types of stem cells serve different purposes in the body” (“Nine Things to Know about Stem Cells Treatment”) Scientist discovered and understood that different types of stem cells had their own capacity and limitations. This simply mean that asking a blood adult stem cells or what scientists called “hematopoietic” stem cells to become a brain cells will not work (“Nine Things to Know about Stem Cells Treatment”). Also to be able to find the best treatment scientists needs to be able to understand with detail the causes of that disease, then they can create a treatment based off stem cells that can perfectly match the needs to cure organs diseases or repair damaged tissues. This mean that what scientists know about stem cells is not sufficient to let them create stem cells based treatments for every diseases. This is a promising medicine treatments as long as scientists are able to be a hundred percent sure that it is safe to use on
