Those who don't have the money to pay for the colleges even the most cheapest college should have the opportunity to go to a free college and feel successful in their future. It states in the article that “Talented students are forgoing college because of the costs, students who start college are unable to complete because they cannot afford to continue, and even students who finish degrees may not realize all of the expected returns because of sizable debt burdens.” This means that the talented who may even rise up to become something good and help our country in the future can’t even afford to pay for the cost. In another text it mentioned that “The success rate in college for the lowest-achieving but highest-income students is slightly better than the success rate for the highest-achieving, lowest-income students.” Which means those who might have good grades cant even join their college and people who can might not be as smart.
For those who have graduated from high school and will continue with their higher education, many if not all of these students will have to pay out of pocket for college. Most of students think that if they graduate from college or a four-year university they will have a chance to work in the professional field rather than work for minimum wage. Whether college should be free or not is a debate that has been going on for decades. In this article, however, we will figure out if college really should be free. College should be free, as there would be less student debt, more people would have access to a higher education, and it could lead society to new levels of innovation. First off, let’s discuss student debt. Student debt has been a rising problem, especially for those attending college in the United States.
Jamie Merisotis, President and CEO of the Lumina Foundation stated, "A dramatic increase in the number of Americans with college credentials is absolutely essential for our economic, social, and cultural development as a country"(Source 1). The increase of college tuition has limited many people from a higher education, which may affect them in the long run because it seems to be essential to the workforce these days. According to the US Department of Education, "College graduates earn $570,000 more than a high school graduate over a lifetime, on average, and they have lower unemployment rates"(Source 1). This shows that jobs are looking for degrees in any higher education, but unfortunately not everyone can afford the college tuition, causing them to be held back from what they are capable of. Allowing people to attend college cost free and can lower unemployment rates for the better allowing more people to strive financially without doubt or regret in their life long decision.

Making college free would benefit the nation greatly, making the unemployment rate and dropout stats go down with tuition being now affordable. The Debate of Whether College Should Be Free or Not Is it fair that students barely beginning their lives as adults are handed massive bills specifically for a college education? Over 1 trillion dollars of debt is owed from student loans in America. If we made college free for everyone we would be funding the rich. Families that have the money to pay for some or all of the cost of a college education might choose instead to take advantage of free college at a public institution. Paying for college has been a big problem for people who can’t afford it, or those who wanna attend college. Every year many people drop out due to expense problems. If the government made college free then everyone who wanted to attend a college or couldn’t afford it could finally get to have the opportunity of achieving an higher level of education. Others may think that attending college should not be free because of higher taxes and the fact that people would take their education less serious since college would be free. No to Free Colleges In the economy today, to get a sufficient paying job to support a family and him or herself after high school means college. With college there comes some pretty high prices like paying for tuition, housing, and other needs that cause a hole in college students’ wallets. President Obama has recently introduced the America’s College Promise, which entitles students with a 2.5 GPA to go to a community college for free for two years. Now the concept is wonderful to think of not paying for tuition, but in reality it’s not feasible for America.
In today society, people are easily looked by their college degree level and they can be judged by their degree. But not everybody can afford to go to college in order to get a degree. People have different reasons of not going to college but most of the reasons are because of the tuition. Tuition are too high and they can not afford it.
