College Tuition Should not Be Free
According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Outstanding Public Debt as of May 2016 is 19 trillion dollars, and the National Debt has continued to increase an average of $2.37 billion per day since September 2012 (2016). It is really a huge obligation for the government to pay in the current economy. If the nation affords the tuition free college, this number will increase as a result. While some people say that they want the education costs (the charge or fee for instruction at a college or a university) to be free, I believe that college tuition should be charged because it will decrease the burden for the nation and maintain the value of the college degree.

It is great to think that all people will have a chance to get their college degree; however, how will it be valuable if all their peers have it. It means tuition free college will devalue the college degree. Lloyd Bentsen IV - a former U.S Senator – wrote that the value of the degree which is easily achieved by too many people will be equal what a high school degree had been done for future employment goals (2015). In this case, college is simply considered as another “high school” which most of young Americans have done, and students will waste another 2 years doing the same things in high school in order to get a degree which everyone can do. Furthermore, if everyone has a college degree, students will have to take more years in college to get better degrees for the job seeking competition. It will be difficult for graduate college students to get a job when there are too many applicants who have the same level as them. For this reason, they need to prove themselves different from the others by getting higher or better degrees when a college degree is valued as same as high school graduation.
