Arguments Against Legalizing Marijuana

For many years there has been a debate on whether marijuana should be legalized or not. In the United States marijuana is mainly used for either medical purposes or recreational. If the U.S decides to legalize marijuana there’s a good chance that it would be sold on the retail market and companies will make good money. On the other hand, legalizing this drug would result in a higher usage rate mainly towards teens and young adults. For states, which already legalized marijuana, are dealing with serious public health problems. If the U.S does however agree with legalizing marijuana, what are the chances that people would not abuse the drug like alcohol and tobacco.

Marijuana is known to treat mild to moderate nausea; vomiting and can kill certain cancer cells. However is this really what people are going to use marijuana for or is this going to be for recreation purposes as a “gate way” drug. Researches suggest that marijuana is likely to come before other drugs and is linked to addictive substances including nicotine. People who began using marijuana before 18 are 4 to 7 times more like than adults to develop problem use… dependence becomes addition when the person cant stop using marijuana according to Drug Alcohol Depend. It is stated that young kids who may use this drug is likely to have depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. If people start becoming addicted to this drug at a young age it will effect the brains development. Legalizing marijuana will harm the future of young, but also the future of our country and the world.
