Therefore, it’s perfectly logical that Adnan can’t remember much about that day, even weeks later. Most importantly, both teens had alibis for January 13th at 2:36pm. Clearly, Adnan couldn’t have killed Hae that day. Next, while the jury does eventually rule in favor of the prosecution, when the state’s evidence is brought to light, it crumbles under the pressure.
Therefore, Adnan Syed did not murder Hae Min Lee. The first element about Adnan’s case that proves that Adnan is innocent is that Leakin Park is an hour away from where Adnan lives so why would he get out of his way to murder someone and then dispose of the body an hour away. In the investigation on the case, Sarah Koenig was talking to Rabia Chaudry, friend of Adnan, and this comment proves that Adnan wouldn’t be able to murder Hae: “is Adnan suppose to get to Leakin Park so fast? It’s like an hour into the city.
Adnan, along with Jay Wildes, were proven to be involved in the murder, but no hard evidence concludes who strangled her. Many clues found in this case suggest that Adnan did not strangle Hae himself, but the evidence proves that he was otherwise involved in the planning and execution of this
There are many interview with Jay, Adnan, and other of his friends but who really is saying the truth to this case. The question everyone's asking is Jay saying the truth, he said everything he knew according to him, he didn’t stay quiet he went ahead and said it. Jay is blaming Adnan for Hae’s murder but in the other hand Adnan said the he didn’t do it. That he would never do a cruel thing such as that, he respects his family, his religious, and Hae. My confusion and my question is did Adnan really do it or not?
Nothing out of the ordinary happened that day. Lastly, there wasn’t enough witnesses that heard Adnan was leaving with Hae that day. There is not enough evidence to convict him of that murder. Primarily, because the only witness they have on Adnan is Jay. Many people have their droughts on Jay people believe he killed Hae Lee.
In Asia’s letter, it gave Adnan an alibi. In Asia’s letter she stated “On Jan 13th we chatted in the library and went to your family’s house” (Rhoute Talk 5). This implies that Adnan could not have been in two places at once. Asia called the library to see if they had a surveillance system from 1pm-8:45pm. In her letter it says “Woodlawn Public Library found they had a surveillance system inside the building” (Rhoute Talk 5).
No one in public saw the two together when the prosecution is trying to place them together. The claims aren 't even really contradictory. No one is saying Adnan got in Hae 's car. The only supporting piece to his possible guilt would be that he asked for a ride. That 's it.
Adnan, as is said by Sarah Koeing, "Adnan was the kind of kid who would stand up when your parents came into the room, Ali said. At parties or events, he’d be the first one to ask, 'how can I help you, Aunty? Do you need help setting up those tables, Uncle?'"(Serial Transcript 11). Besides the moments when Adnan was kind to his friends or his family, it is clear as Sarah talks to him throughout the podcast that he truly doesn't know anything about Hae's murder. Sarah also spoke to Deirdre Enright a lawyer in a different, but similar, case, who said "...when you have an innocent
“ Okay, so no one actually testified at trial that they saw Hae and Adnan leave school together.” So nobody saw them leave together, that’s some evidence that Adnan didn’t kill Hae. Also some people said “They’re still friendly; several people said they couldn’t tell or didn’t know that Hae and Adnan broke up.” so basically they were still pretty close after their breakup so honestly there is no motive that Adnan would have used to kill Hae. (S1.ep2.pg.40),
Adnan can’t be considered guilty if there isn’t enough evidence present for a jury to make such as life changing decision. The only evidence used in this case was one testimony and the defendant’s phone records. The testimony was made by Jay Wilds who was with Adnan during the time of Hae’s disappearance. He stated that Adnan planned everything ahead of time and asked him to help after her death. Jay admitted to helping with the disposal of the body, but he’s testimony doesn’t sound trustworthy.
Let’s start off with what we know from the beginning. The sole witness, Jay Wilds claimed Adnan told him he would kill Hae Min Lee. Jay has given 3 different stories about when Adnan let him know he expected to murder Hae. In one version, Adnan says it the night prior to the murder.
He also does not remember anything from the day of January 13, 1999. Is he purposely not remembering anything or did nothing really significant happen that day for him trigger his memory? But, his ex-girlfriend was killed that day. That day should stick out like a sore thumb in his head. Where he was when he got the phone call, what he did after school, and who he hung out with.
There were other possible alibis and witnesses that could have proved Adnan did not kill Hae, but detectives did not look into them well or not at all. Jay was the State’s main witness. He provided a motive to the police, lead the detectives to Hae’s car, saw Hae’s body, and was Adnan during the majority of the day. (Episode 1, 2, and 4). Jay was there with Adnan when he was talking about killing Hae and why he wanted to.
In court, the state of Maryland uses Jay’s testimony to prove Adnan’s innocence. Police interview Jay multiple times before the trial. In each of the interviews, Jay testifies differently. “In the first taped interview, Jay says Adnan only told him that same day that he was going to kill Hae. Two weeks later, Jay says that Adnan had started talking about it beforehand - four or five days before”(Episode 4. 00:25:39-00:25:51).
These two reasons are all that a person should need to believe that Adnan didn't have enough motive, or time, to kill Hae. Jays testimony sets the timeline and proves there is enough evidence, which is not presented by Adnan’s lawyer, to say Adnan is innocent by a straying story. The time period where Hae could've been killed does not match Adnan’s timeline. Jay, who is a convicted felon, was the only witness and is trusted to give a good story. Cristina Gutierrez, who was Adnan’s lawyer, had medical issues that distracted her from using useful information in his case.
