This term paper will be covering the lifestyle and history of Auto-zone and how it came to be. The company today is worth twenty-one billion dollars, the evolution of this company was tremendous as it started just as a small store selling aftermarket car parts and providing mechanical services, comparing the past until now the company has done a complete change from being a store who cared about it’s employees and people to just making money and expansion. Auto-zone in the current day has diminished in value and in employee relation, the management is unfair and treats the employees with a certain discrimination and unfairness. At Auto-zone the customers are valued above and beyond because they are what keeps the company going either regular customers or even the local mechanics, they must be treated with utmost respect. In the store there is a discrimination between managers and employees where we are distinguished as Gray shirts (managers) and (Red shirts) employees; the red shirts get treated poorly because they are not management, so they do all the heavy work as in cleaning, stocking and dealing with almost all services that the customers ask for, where the managers only do what is needed for the store like paperwork, and instore task also customer service. Sexism has always been a issue in Auto-zone because some male employees treat the women as they are not as knowledgeable as they are because them men believe cars is a “Man’s hobby”, Auto-zone has previously been sued because of these allegations. Progressing on, Understandably Upper management have a lot on their plates because they are running districts and a number of stores, but they refuse to actual take the time and help out those in need, they mistreat the entry level managers and employees, and nothing can be done because of tenure, they would rather replace the employees who are making the claims or even relocated. If I had a voice in the company I would either enforce mandatory cultural and diversity training on the managers so they can start treating the employees fairly and more openly to avoid lawsuits, if the training does not help, honestly I would get rid of all upper management and convert management to who the company use to be where the stores would manage and operate on its own instead of having an outside source leader trying to micromanage the people in the store while they are never present to know what exactly is going on in that location. I believe nothing will change in the company two to three years from now, everything will stay the same, the company rules by fear and that is what draws their success today because us employees already have the fear installed and the feeling that we are always treading on eggshells. If the company had an organized management plan, I believe things would be different, what I mean by this is that everybody must be informed and trained to deal with
